A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Part of being an adult is knowing that OP needs to mind their own business.

That’s exactly what a chicken would say

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 5 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

200 million chicken get slaughtered each day, they lived a life of horror veyond comprehension. If they are lucky they are the 50% that lands in the meat grinder after birth. And people here are worried that it might be unhealthy or that they need their protein.

[–] peacepath@lemmy.world 1 points 54 minutes ago

Lucky animals are those who don't live?

Vegan are so scary.

Why not?

It's a protein, so it really just depends on what your eating with them. As long as you're getting balanced nutrition, there's no reason Chicken Wings can't be the protein choice every day.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

They are fried and fatty. Some protein, but mostly fats. Also, vegetables are made of protein.

[–] MojoMcJojo@lemmy.world 2 points 46 minutes ago

You..you don't have to fry them

They are an essential component of the Team Sports industry

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 9 points 16 hours ago

I'm doing keto. I'm allowed.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 8 points 17 hours ago

I could, though, it’s an option.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Compared to lots of other foods, chicken wings aren't especially unhealthy, I think? They aren't normally deep fried, chicken is a healthier meat than beef or pork, not sure there are good health reasons not to eat them every day? Of course it gets boring after a while.

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 3 points 13 hours ago

"Healthy" in regards to foods is problematic at best. It all depends on the rest of your diet, your needs, and especially your dosage (portions and portion size).

Could a small amount of chicken wings be a great supplement? Sure, it has all sorts of useful micro and macro nutrients, if that's what you need. Could you have a bunch without any impact to your health? Possibly, if you're doing keto. Would your health improve if you cut them out? Also a maybe, if it doesn't work with the rest of your lifestyle and genetics.

Example: Chicken is high in omega-6. This is bad for some people, but only some. And I bet you hadn't considered it as a factor in whether it's healthy.

[–] Shindo66@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Im sorry to say, chicken wings could quite possibly be the worst thing for you. Its the absolute fattest part of the chicken. Its really all fat. Then they are covered in sugary sauce or fatty sauce. They aren't chicken breast, they're the dark meat covered in skin. The dipped in delicious butter/oil rich buffalo sauce. The best things ever...

[–] Earthwormjim91@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Wings are white meat though.

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

OK, I wasn't thinking of the sauce, that part could be unhealthy.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Have you ever made buffalo sauce? It's literally 50% butter and 25% honey (and its delicious)

[–] schnurrito@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 11 hours ago

No, I may or may not have had it at a restaurant or something, but if so, don't remember it. It's not a usual food where I live.

[–] Anti_Iridium@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

I'm only slightly ashamed to admit I had buffalo wings for breakfast with oil rich buffalo sauce this morning.

This. In my case, it was realizing that I can have potato chips every day of the week.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago (9 children)

I don't get the appeal of chicken wings. The amount of work involved vs the meat payout is way lopsided.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 hours ago
  • protein
  • crispy crunchy
  • flavourful (whether from being nicely cooked or from all the optional extra stuff)
  • takes some time to eat, slowing me down (so I don't overeat as easily, and can sit down and actually watch the game recap without finishing 20% of the way through)

also, chicken wings come in sizes from "this looks like it was a baby" to "there is no way this chicken was healthy before slaughter"

I like a good midsize crispy wing with spices and just a dab of sauce.

eating slop bowls gets boring

The same with drum sticks!

Cooking is supposed to be the difficult part and once I sit down to eat I don't want to work for the food any more! Just let me eat it.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago

Well the appeal basically boils down to they’re fucking delicious; particularly when compared to other chicken parts seasoned in the same way.

Your focus on the meat of it all is probably your downfall. Fat brings the flavor and chicken skin is packed with it. Wings, far and away have the best skin to meat ratio of all the chicken parts.

[–] gastroglizzy@piefed.social 1 points 14 hours ago

After some practice, you only need two bites and maybe a little nibble for each one. Then they're great.

[–] hypeerror@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Chicken wings are only food on medium difficulty. Whole crabs take more energy to open than you gain from meat.

Sometimes I prefer food that takes work to eat because I know I'm not actually all that hungry, just bored.

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I never understood the difficulty argument. It's not like these people would be open to just slamming a glass of Soylent because it's easy.

[–] QualifiedKitten@discuss.online 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Funny you mention that. I absolutely went through a DIY Soylent phase, but I was playing around with the recipe(s) via nutrition tracker apps, aiming to hit targets via "real" foods, not supplements, and aiming for "different" recipes. It's actually not as difficult as you might expect, and I don't even mind eating the same meal for a good chunk of my meals, but it just.... didn't.... work... Maybe it's the lack of chewing?

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

What do you mean by "didn't work?"

I was still "hungry". I was definitely getting calories, macros, etc., but I think it being in liquid form, no chewing, meant that some of the biological processes weren't getting the expected feedback.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Sometimes it's not all about how easy it is to eat something. Sometimes if something tastes good enough, I'm willing to put in the smallest amount of effort.

I remember saying to my roommate at the time, 30+ years ago, something like, "I can just buy and eat cake whenever I want. What the hell?"

This was just before my realization that pie is superior to cake in every way.

The only defining trait of adulthood is responsibility, for yourself and those around you, so yes. ✌️

Embrace your inner child.

[–] saltnotsugar@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Part of being an adult is making wackadoodle decisions and eating things you later regret.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 22 hours ago

Knowing and doing are very different.
