It’s weird knowing that when my mom did this she actually put it in my savings account and didn’t spend it on something.
I needed shoes for school, but I really wanted the super Mario light up ones, I had to use my saving for the upgrade.
Sorry to the people who didn’t have parents that taught and practiced financial literacy.
My mother did the opposite. I got my birthday money and she let me blow it on whatever I wanted as fast as I could. I immediately realized how quickly your new found wealth can vanish, and how little it can get you if you don't think it through. It was a harsh way to learn financial responsibility.
This was my parents growing up, but now it’s the other way around. I get money for Christmas or whatever now and I am told I have to spend it on myself and on something that isn’t bills. Like the gift is that it’s money that I don’t have to be responsible with.
That is bad parenting
