We must undo this travesty of justice, where the law was once applied to a powerful white man.

Well, almost applied. They let him off the hook in exchange for resigning. But still! Any consequences at all cannot be allowed to stand!

[–] desuwu@piefed.blahaj.zone 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

He resigned and then he was immediately pardoned by Ford. What's Trump going to do, pardon Nixon a second time??

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Accepting a pardon is an admission of guilt.

Trump is trying to rewrite history so that Nixon's acts are considered normal presidential behavior instead of criminal corruption.

[–] LordMayor@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

That’s not settled law. From your own link (emphasis mine):

Although the Supreme Court's opinion stated that a pardon carries "an imputation of guilt and acceptance of a confession of it,"[2] this was part of the Court's dictum for the case.[4] Whether the acceptance of a pardon constitutes an admission of guilt by the recipient is disputed.

[–] Naich@piefed.world 6 points 2 days ago

To be fair, it would be normal for trump. He's done worse and got away with it.

Some dumbass "super duper secret double pardon" this whole administration is so fucking stupid, and unfortunately super astute at evil

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 42 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What is left to clear? Nixon literally got pardoned by Ford.

The only way to make it clearer is if you remove the indictment. Maybe that's what Trump is trying to set up? Remove the idea that Nixon even did anything wrong? To pave the path for his impeachments can be "removed"?

It's a blatant "flood the zone with shit", dead cat on the table type move. None of them care about Nixon, they just care that you're talking about something that isn't releasing the Epstein Files.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

Unironicly, Nixon did nothing wrong so I didn't do anything wrong.

'When your rich, they let you do it'

He will do whatever he likes until enough American decide to put a stop to it. Simple as that.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

but why?

1000004668

doing this has to open some kind of legal loophole, otherwise the administration wouldn't be doing it.

[–] Illogicalbit@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Or it could be yet another distraction.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Guess they are getting low on material to take peoples minds off the Epstein files. It is not going to work (for me at least).

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Okay, our minds are on the epstien files. Now what?

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Up to the americans. So far they have done squat having a convicted felon, child rapist and the list goes on. Seems like they are ok with it since all I see is avarice and avoidance.

I actually am surprised they are still on the Nixon kick. He supported the 1968 Gun Control Act, also was quoted as saying "I don't see why anybody has a right to a handgun in their home". He wanted to ban "Saturday Night Specials", and further flirted with a full ban on handguns. He also created and promoted the EPA. Pretty sure there are lots of things that today's MAGats would lose their mind over.

[–] yeahiknow3@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, but Trump is anti- gun rights.

[–] Blade9732@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

True, but he kinda waffles on that like everything else, so maga will argue that he is for gun rights. They will justify any position Trump takes, and I guess they may do that for Nixon, of all people.

"Mr. Lahey, are you okay? You promised me we'd get some greasy cheeseburgers, but you fell asleep on the fuckin' loveseat again.."

[–] brem@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's not shocking, I know... I probably should've went with "flock endeavour" or "mock whenever" or "smock in fowl weather" or whatever

... But those don't sound as good,

nor is as clever

[–] seblin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How about "turds of a feather float together"? You know, like the surprise log at pool

[–] brem@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

In "Holy Grail" the Python crew does a whole bit about a person with a bright orange nose floating in water (albeit in comparison to wood)

...which brings me to my demands for the liberation of The United States Of America..

...Trump must be dunked (in Boston Harbor) & carted off to prison until his natural end of life (no comunicato)

[–] DataCrime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Dick Grayson for me

[–] BrownSugarBits@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

What an utter contempt for the rule of law. I suppose judge's rulings are just an opinion that can be changed at any point in the future when they feel like it?

This is what happens when you let a criminal run the government.

[–] Vince@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I mean yeah, he's done way worse and is still in office
