Seattle WA is pretty cool.
Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Scrolled until I saw my city! Moved here from the south and haven’t regretted a single second. NYC is too stuck up because they make you dress up just to go to a mid-cocktail bar. I’ll go to a cocktail bar after work in my ripped jeans and graphic tshirt here, most of the time with my dog. It’s super chill.
Yeahs same. I moved here about ten years ago from Central Florida.
Philadelphia, easy.
Belgrade Serbia. It's the perfect size, not crowded but always busy, big enough that it has everything you could want small enough you can get anywhere in under an hour on free public transportation. The food is great and cheap and there's plenty of places open all night. Lots of green space and a couple huge parks. I live as a nomad but if i had to pick a city to settle in Beograd is the easy choice.
Thanks for including the "why" part of the answer.
Clearly it's Best. That's why they named it that.

That's not what the OP asked. "Greatest" in what capacity, I dunno.
"Best" and "greatest" are synonyms. Also I couldn't find any city named "Greatest." 🤷♂️
Not quite. Greatest also means "largest" or "biggest" - whether that means most land area, most residents, biggest buildings, biggest crime rate, etc. is all up to context.
Oslo
New York, NY USA
I really don't like cities, but the cities I have disliked the least (in order) are: Singapore, Istanbul, Rome, Paris, Tokyo, Quebec City, Granada Spain, New York, Montreal, Cartagena, Cuenca Ecuador, Washington D.C.(although it was many years ago I was there), Ottawa.
Istanbul, although maybe not anymore since Erdogan is doing his best to ruin it.
The food is amazing, it (was) an open and tolerant city and its several thousand years of settlement mean there's fascinating history no matter where you look.
Not anything in the US, since you know, then you'd be in the US and that's a big no-no. It's mine, obviously.
I want to say another city to be cool, but New York City, New York State always makes me proud. I live in Rochester lol.
Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
They have the least authoritarian government and the most amount of food available for the non-elite class.
Depends a lot how you interpret "great". My personal favorites are, without picking a winner:
Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Edinburgh, Brno

The island's official name, Megisti (Μεγίστη) means "biggest" or "greatest".
Purpee Oregon
An affordable and walkable one, with every corner a third place and lots of trees.
Los Angeles. In spite of all the anti-homeless initiatives, it's still the least wlrst place in the world for someone to be on the streets.
NY.
Because Voldemort was a great wizard.
Wakanda, easy.
Thats a country
