Once my dog pissed on a sheet and I threw it in the machine without even rinsing it.

Everything I washed for the next week smelled like dog piss.

There's only so much piss a washing machine can take.

There's only so much piss a washing machine can take.

I think this is my new favourite saying

Poster for the film Joker, 2019

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That sounds like a washing machine issue to me.

[–] hakase@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Absolutely. If my washing machine can handle a full load of pissy cloth diapers every night, it should definitely be able to handle one sheet with dog piss on it.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Yes and no. Washing machines only have the water level go so high for maximum fill loads. it's honestly a disappointing level. You'd think they would have the capacity to fill water to the top of the drum, but in my experience they don't. (Maybe old models do?) If you overfill your washer, it might not be able to clean off all the piss.

HAHA! PARENT! Your senses have been dulled by the effluence generated by your loin-goblins, you don't even realize.... you can't smell the horrors they generate and now all your clothing bears the burden of their stench!

parenting is an adventure. use these experiences to justify future decisions on how late they can stay out and what college you'll send them to.

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Washing machinese should have an index on how much piss they can handle in one load /s

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

Point of order, do you use detergent?

[–] kungen@feddit.nu 3 points 2 days ago

You never empty the machine's drain?

[–] dlsloop@lemmy.zip 82 points 2 days ago

Why do we even wash our clothes? Just to dirty them again? Life is a prison.

[–] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 61 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I'm not wasting perfectly good drinking piss just to wash some clothes

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 7 points 2 days ago

To get the proper drinking experience, make sure to let it age in your bladder for at least a couple of hours. If you're not going to age it properly then might as well use it for the washing machine.

[–] assassinatedbyCIA@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

It’s only piss if it comes from the piss region of France. Otherwise it’s just sparkling urine.

[–] bountygiver@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

The water can only dilute dirty stuff so much. Shouldn't you rinse any items that are too dirty through running water first before throwing it into the washing machine?

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

I thought the machine did that because it only releases the soap in a later stage. But I also think the machine reuses water a lot to save on water.

[–] zqps@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

There's usually a pre-wash cycle.

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 61 points 2 days ago

Urea-lly need to stop doing that.

[–] lustyargonian@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

Matured piss was used for washing clothes. Next time bottle it up and use after 2 weeks of fermenting.

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Reddit has changed so much.

r/sinkpissed USED to be full ironic posts. "Haha, what if", with no actual sink pissing. Not anymore....

[–] Hirohito@fedinsfw.app 30 points 2 days ago (2 children)

ancient romans did it first

[–] Timbo1970@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But then it should be communal. OUR pee, to make the tankies happy.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

The hammer, the sickle, and the communal pee jug!

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You have to let it age iirc, something to do with urea and ammonia

[–] iocase@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

When our bodies metabolize protein they produce ammonia which is toxic to us, so our liver combines it into urea which is ~20X less toxic in our bloodstream (fish don't do this because they can always pee the ammonia out their gills)

Urea of course breaks down into ammonia, which is alkaline and polar. It does a decent job of dissolving fat and grease.

Its also why i buy unscented ammonia and add about a cup or so to my laundry (especially for bedding) to help extract even more oils from it. It seems to work quite well and it's cheap.

[–] remon@ani.social 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I guess you can save one small flush of water with that, so I'd say it's a-okey!

[–] devaly@ani.social 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I prefer to do it in the dish washer, since it uses even less water.

My own mouth, skip all the middlemen

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 5 points 2 days ago

Not sure why I'd want to dirty up my clothes even more before a wash

[–] sit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Wait was there a legitimate use for piss in the olden days?

Was piss used to wash clothes?

I dont rember if it was water down a hill where human bodies were buried or if piss was collected directly in PISS BUCKETS for washing.

[–] esc@piefed.social 16 points 2 days ago

There were a lot of legitimate uses for urine. It was used in tanning, for cleaning, for making gunpowder.

[–] PIxelSerg404@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

ancient rome enters the chat

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

They used to wash clothes down the river from burial ground because the lye mixed with human remains resulted in a natural soap leeching into the ground water/river

[–] littletranspunk@lemmus.org 4 points 2 days ago

Guess it's time to dig up Grandma for some natural soap

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

Obligatory OK Tyler Durden.

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

Allowing urine to settle and evaporate left behind ammonia, which is the main ingredient in many things. Among them, washing clothes, tanning hides, and some medicines.

So kinda.

[–] MycelialMass@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The saying "Not even a pot to piss in." doesnt just mean you have nothing, it also refers to the fact you couldnt even make any money because if you had a pot you could sell your urine.

[–] sit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

Never heard this one (not native English speaking) but it sounds plausible !
