I replied to someone saying that the USSR defeated the Nazis saying that it was a group effort. Got into an argument and called a Nazi repeatedly because "I was mad that the USSR defeated the Nazis and hated them for it" which is ridiculous. This isn't the first time that's happened on Lemmy. What's up with that?

I'm basically new, how would a user like me go about blocking these instances?

I am happy to hear you are taking responsibility for what you see on lemmy. This is much healthier then making biweekly+ cringe feudposts begging your server admins to defederate.

Let me help:

Welcome to a tutorial on how to block .ml on your personal account.

In the top right corner of the top of the page, there are 3 horizontal white bars. Click it.

This will open up a drop down menu. At the bottom of that menu, you will see your username. Click it.

This will open another drop down menu with 3 options. Click "Settings".

At the top of your screen you will see 2 tabs. Click the one that says "Blocks".

Here you will see "Block user" "Block community" and "Block instance". Click the down arrow below "Block instance".

This will open up a search bar. Type "lemmy.ml" and click it after it shows up. That's it! You've blocked .ml and will never see content from the instance.

But wait, we aren't done yet in this menu. Click the down arrow under "Block user". Now type "UltraGiGaGigantic" Make sure you select my .ml account as the other ones I no longer use. Thanks, appreciate it.

I question the blocking you part but understood.

Thank you.

You should also add hexbear.net and lemmygrad.ml, if you think .ml is bad those 2 are widely considered to be far worse. Together they comprise the Tankie Triad of the lemmyverse

Be aware though that while blocking the triad makes your feed much better, the blocking system of lemmy is horribly implemented (Many of us consider it done on purpose (the lemmy devs are hardcore Tankies)) so even though you block instances, those instance users can still be bothersome on posts outside those instance (e.g. you'll still see them on a post on a comm on lemmy.dbzer0.com for instance). They are also known to create Alts on other instances to stir up trouble and brigade posts.

Here's a list of well known Tankies if you'd like to individually block, most of em will have alts on hex and grad (I made it from memory so I might miss some others) Alternatively, depending on your client, you can also just tag their usernames and then if you see them in the wild you'll know right away (Which is what I prefer, I prefer to tag users rather than outright block so I can counter their crap if I so choose)

Fine by me, if they get to leak out of their instance that means likewise they need pushback.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I guess all that lend lease equipment we used to prop up the weak soviet industry had nothing to do with it. They thanked us by making a clone of the B-29.

If you can believe it. You can't believe anything a tankie says.

Go ahead and prove me wrong, lmao.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I asked him to source those charts and he won't do it. I wonder why.

[–] NonconfrontationaI@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 minutes ago

Because I'm not your failure of a history teacher. If you have a problem with the numbers, talk to me about them and we can figure it out.

[–] cm0002@lemy.lol 1 points 2 hours ago

Oh wow, that's a lot of charts without a single source on them lolol

Nice!

You missed raw resources though. Or logistics. Like tires - it was damn impressive when USA packed and shipped and rebuilt (then knows as) Moscow Tire Factory. Or half a million trucks to transport all that food, or iron (Ural), or coal (Azerbeijan or Kazakhstan, don't remember). Or literal shitton of trains, or rails. Or that 1/3 of explosives that Red Army used was from Land Lease. Or that the land lease food was canned meat and majority of meat soldiers on the front ate. Or that funny thing about octane fuel, where (some models of) Yaks (e.g Yak 9U) would just not run on the domestic low octane fuel, and had to use Land Lease one (other models just got better performance, of about 20%). Oh, and half of the aluminum USSR needed for the tank engines and airplanes.

But you're spot on with tanks!

Lmao, your country helped, li'l buddy!
