Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Oh no!!

...wait nevermind I already deleted my account a long time aggo.

[–] XiJinpingStanAccount@lemmy.ml 4 points 9 hours ago

Discord is less a messaging platform these days as just like an open source data aggregation service for cyber criminals. It's like they have a huge data leak every 6 months or so.

Pfahahaha deserved

Matrix with Sable client.

[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Deleted my Discord a long time ago since I rarely used it, the only thing that sucks is when trying to do game jams with others it’s the only option, so I haven’t been able to do any…
But still this is better than having Discord.

[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 1 points 10 hours ago

idk, I only see discord links when checking game jam community pages, and since I don't have a need for a chat app I've never investigated any alternatives

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

discord is a shit tier platform filled with pedophiles.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 58 points 1 day ago

Basically, it’s the worst Discord hack via a third-party service provider since the last Discord hack via a third-party service provider, which occurred almost a year to the day ago – spooky!

LOL wow that thing that everyone said would happen, happened. Again.

[–] LemmyEntertainYou@piefed.social 6 points 19 hours ago

And yet Discord still blocks using anonaddy addresses to sign up.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 68 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, good. Hadn't seen a Discord data breach article in a short while so was wondering if I'd slipped into a coma. All is normal.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 day ago

I was worried that Discord became secure. I had nothing to worry about it seems.

If only matrix was as usable as discord I'm sure a lot of people would

[–] dragonlover@lemmy.zip 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

It is. People just need to use an app that actually cares about good UI like Cinny/Sable. Element is trash.

Sable has every feature I could want and then some

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Seconded on Sable.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Firstly, it already is. It depends on what client you use.

Secondly, no they wouldn't. Even when all the work is done for them, nobody moves because nobody cares even when they say they do.

[–] senko@ani.social 4 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Stoat chat seems pretty decent open source alternative to Discord, tried it for a while and has similar usability, but same issue, "nobody uses it", also development has been very slow.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

I tried stoat, but I couldn't create the same community that I had on Discord that I had set up, so I haven't tried to move everything there. Honestly, if there was a Discord alternative that functioned similar, I would move there tomorrow, but there really isn't. And there's no easy way to mirror the content from Discord to the other place so people can see the activity.

[–] Starski@lemmy.zip 1 points 12 hours ago

I've been liking stoat, I only really used discord to communicate with my friends and luckily they were nice enough to humour me with making an account, so now stoats pretty much all I use, even if my friends are still using discord on the side

[–] Marn@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 14 hours ago

Yeah stoat looks very promising!

[–] partzel@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

It is more than usuable though, my only issue with it is the lack of communities other than that both apps and servers are pretty reliable imo

[–] dmir@gehirneimer.de 2 points 20 hours ago

It sometimes takes an eternity or two to decrypt my messages, making me really want to agree here.

[–] AbsolutelyNotSpez@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Solrac@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

I'll consider it once its been federated. Otherwise its just jumping from one basket to another basket

[–] Stolas@lemmy.ca 6 points 20 hours ago

I always hated how invasive double counter was. Besides being a bouncer it's also been used a stalking tool to find out peoples alt accounts and harass them.

Does anyone have that sweet gif of Ms. Rachel and Mamdani?

[–] Shortstack@reddthat.com 107 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly just save it to your phone, it’s needed on lemmy so much

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Here's a trick, save a comment of the gif, then you can copy the markup of the gif that's already been uploaded

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Set a keyboard shortcut to &rachelmamdani to replace that with the markup, and it’s at your fingertips!

Could even shorten it to &rm!

Double Counter essentially acts as a bouncer bot for Discord servers

If you give a Discord Bot sensitive data, I'm sorry but you're clearly the issue. Bots are software, you (hopefully) wouldn't download a random piece of software from an untrusted souce and give it access to your sensitive data and you should apply the same level of caution when it comes to Discord Bots too.

[–] cmhe@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

You are victim blaming. Should they have been more cautions with handing over their data, yes. But the fact that they have to, is representative of the bad state of society. It is the fault of the company, people or systems that where trusted by the communities to properly protect it against evil actors. If they cannot protect that data, they shouldn't have gathered it in the first place. And for that they should get punished properly and should recompense all victims. They should no longer be in business.

Civilization is built on trust, and if that trust erodes, civilization does too.

[–] Quexotic@infosec.pub 1 points 18 hours ago

Correct, and the biggest erosion of trust is coming. It'll definitely be something.

Thank god everyone was kept safe by this...

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Plot twist, it’s a “rogue AI” doing data collection.

[–] burido@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

this time it's copilot

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Now lets start adding in present day photos (for the children only, gotta keep them safe! oh and they must be in swimwear for extra security).
