Hurricane Isaias recently passed thru the Gulf of Mexico on its way to Alabama/Florida. It still brought localized storm surges to my neck of the beach well in excess of the normal high tides by 100% (average high tide is 1.3-1.5 foot, these surges were 2.8-3.1 foot according to NOAA).

The beach was all but inaccessible. State park fuzz had the beach access blocked off and was only letting 4wd vehicles into the beach with the caveat 'rescue services not provided due to storm surge'. I could hear water lapping against the underside of my pick em up when the waves came up hard. The tides are up higher than usual still but they are expected to subside in the next couple days.

Looking forward to wandering the shore tomorrow after work, I'm curious what all got washed ashore. The Gulf was quiet this hurricane season so this will be my first post-hurricane roam of the year.
