tiping on machines need to be banned

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 24 points 1 week ago

Ha, they can fuck off with that right now. I respect the workers enough to give them zero tips as I expect them to be paid a fair wage and any worker to do the right thing if they're not i.e. telling their boss to get fucked and walk off. As is tradition.

If I'm getting asked to tip, it's immediately zero percent.

I think it's mostly US POS (point of sale, not piece of shit, although…) software that comes with it, possibly automatically enabled. Manager types go 'it's free money' and leave it or are too clueless to turn it off. Also Megacorps like McDs.

There needs to be significant backlash above and beyond not using it or tipping 0 or even never coming back. Make it clear that it's UnAustralian and you're boycotting their establishment until it's gone. Tell the server, tell the manager, get corps email and tell them. Post corps email on socials and get others to as well. If tipping gets established it will stick and then we'll end up paying servers shit like the US. Fuck US culture in general and tipping in particular.

When i was in sweden they said apparently a lot of pin terminals come with the tip screen as default, but everyone just expects you to press skip.

Restaurants in Brazil are starting to ask for tips higher than 10% and I keep having to ask them to lower it

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

higher than 10%

In Canada I've seen tip "suggestions" go as high as 40%, its fucking insane and agoyld be prohibited altogether

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If they suggested 40% I think I would spit on their faces ngl

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

The problem is that you'd be spitting on the wrong face.

Tipping culture is an effective tactic to turn us against one another.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Or employers could, y'know. PAY A FUCKING LIVING WAGE.

I used to see tip buttons on payment screens a lot in the UK. That seems to have reduced recently and you have to ask for a tip to be added. There are still restaurants that add a 10 or 12% service charge to the bill though.

I recently had to pay for a very expensive, extremely overpriced dinner and they had the fucking cheek to just sneakily add a 15% service charge there. When I asked them to remove it, the manager came asking if anything was wrong... I somewhat calmly told him that no, not at all, which is why I'm paying the bill in the first place!

My local small supermarket (Co-op) has a "donate to charity" button. Fuck that! I choose my donations thankyouverymuch. And I am pretty generous.

This particular cultural creep shows up in all the nations US have mentally colonized - even in the former socialist worker nations in Scandinavia. We will become (more) like mini US nations if we don't get rid of US culture and political/cultural occupation.

De-yankify at once!

What's that, Skip? Prevent exploitation by not tipping?

[–] atrizzy@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 week ago

If it actually goes to the workers, thats probably not a bad thing.
