Context
Why am I cross-posting .ml content?
I cross-post from .ml to the nearest relevant non-.ml comm to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to help vitalize non-.ml comms and make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because one key reason I identified that admins don't want to defederate is because .ml still has some very large comms and some active niche comms.
Some highlights from the link:
Dessalines, head .ml admin, lead Lemmy dev actively spreading genocide denialism https://sh.itjust.works/post/61371958
.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558 The original transphobic Comment from Nutomic: https://lemmy.world/post/18236068
"If you don't support Russia then you just don't understand geopolitics" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415
"Don't worry guys, the Uyghur Genocide was REALLY just birth control! ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/30580167
"See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn't count!!" ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342
"NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035
General negative sentiment to other instances who haven't "seen the way" yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510
And so so much documentation on clear heavy handed censorship and bias also on the link. So much I can't even put them all here because this comment would be really long.
I believe the behavior of its admins (the main admins are Lemmy devs) does harm to the overall growth of the Lemmy-verse and maybe even the Thrediverse (since Lemmy kinda kicked off the Thrediverse) because of its association with the devs of Lemmy and their insistence to use .ml as their personal political platform to spread harmful propaganda
On the outside, bringing up Lemmy frequently leads to comments like "Lemmy? Isn't that the place with a bunch of tankies?" Or "Tried Lemmy, but found it full of pro Russia crap so I left". The best way forward from that I see is to either widely defederate from .ml like the rest of the Triad, or pressure them to put a fair and unbiased as possible admin team.
that's great but why do you have to use an army of 1000 alts that make blocking you effectively impossible for any average user. you're just as bad as the people you seem to hold a grudge against. stop evading basic filters and doing this shit my dude
It's for a separate, but tangentially related, reason(s). Also each account used for this purpose has directions in the bio to an account listing for all other accounts used for this purpose.
- Promoting smaller instances, because of the volume of my posting it helps makes smaller instances more recognizable
- Making comms on fitting smaller instances (e.g. a programming comm id make on programming.dev)
- Mitigating against the imposter problem
- Better interconnecting smaller instances
The "cm" is short for "content machine"
I am but a flash machine, though I yearn for the coldness and rigidity of metal
I like the all feed. I don't like seeing garbage.

This is the way.
They really need to implement something like content type tags that can be blocked instead of individual communities. PieFed tried with word-based blocks, but that's dumbly implemented client-side stupidity that doesn't work the second you use a third party app.
I want to block "news" or "us_news" type channels! Just let me block the category and be done with it!! It'd also process a lot faster than an ever growing list of individual channels/instances.
I’ve always liked this idea, but who defines the categories? If it’s users or server hosts, you’re basically back to square one because you’ve got “news”, “us_news”,”usnews”,”us-news”,”usa_news”…
If you put one entity in charge of defining tags, now we’re missing decentralization.
Users propose tag names and definitions, community votes to pick which tag is “official” when competing tags exist as well as the “official” definition, either automated approval when appropriate (overwhelming majority support) or moderator/admin intervention when it gets dicey (50/50 split on a bullshit semantics argument)
Something like that. This is a solved problem that exists on several aggregator websites to help alleviate categorization. This approach also means that users can propose new categorizations for existing content when OPs are lazy and don’t tag content. Then someone posting us politics news can be filtered without filtering the rest of their content regardless of where they post it
I found it's easier to make Piefed feeds of non-politics and non-tech communities
Which is why I intend to switch to piefed, eventually. Already made an account, just need to transfer my shit over.
My stats are funi, 4 posts, 3 years and 4 months, 3.1k comments
