5-10 million would probably do it without working on investing it anywhere (i.e. basic savings account or more likely paying someone to do it for me) given I'm hoping to have at least another 50-60 years in me, and don't want to stop doing things I enjoy. Especially given I'll have more time to spend on leisure & hobbies

Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them

This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world

Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.

20 or 25 times my annual expenses. There is an entire movement on the Internet dedicated to save up and then never work again. FIRE is the Google term if you're curious.
1 million € would make for pretty comfortable living. Though I suppose I'd need to put it somewhat higher, because otherwise I'd be tempted to do part time work once in a while, so maybe 1.5 million.
3.000.000
I don't really understand the value of money anymore so, without seeming too greedy, I'd guess about 270 bucks?
I struggle to see actually needing more than $2m. $1m is probably already enough
For me, there isn't a minimum. My dad retired early and later in life my brothers and I had to pitch in to pay to allow him and mom to remain in their apartment. I will never willingly stop working no matter how much I've got in my IRA.
2 million at 3-4% I will just live off the interest, that would give me enough to just work when I wanted to instead of to live.
where are you gonna get 3-4% interest rate on a regular savings account? barely get that on a CD, and with a CD that moneys locked up until the end of its term (though maybe withdrawable early with a penalty..)
Most savings accounts i've seen anymore, you're lucky to get .25% of interest, and thats on the high end
I know one bank that has like..a 3% interest rate, but it also severely restricts you to a certain number of transactions on that account per cycle. yes that includes bills being paid and debit card transactions. (edit) I suppose that limit doesnt mean shit if you just move your interest out to another normal account once a year..
400k would convince me to not look for work and instead make a few bucks off the things I would already be doing for fun. But I am pretty well set up and my bills are minimal out here. As long as I can eat, drink, and .... partake ... I could get by.
24 mill USD equivalent:
400000 that I can use every year until I'm 100 (I probably won't live that long, so my kids get whatever remains). It's much more than I need, but I want a lot of leeway to maneuver whatever the financial markets burp up. Then sum should allow for positioning in a manner that makes sure the fund itself isn't eaten up by inflation.
I first thought 12 mill, but realized that my anual "salary" would be of diminishing value due to inflation, so I doubled it to be on the safe side.
