It's ok if you don't, but if you do, try peaches too!

It's funny, my issue with it has always been that they add ham with it. Fuck that, give me pepperoni and some sort of (not shitty green bell) pepper like a jalapeno or banana pepper and pineapple is great.

[–] Alenalda@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

My favorite pizza was a BLT, now I'm a veggie and make LT pizza with mayo and it's close but not the same. The fake impossible chicken is getting pretty good, but no fake beacon I've tried comes close.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 0 points 1 hour ago

So I used to be opposed to pineapple on pizza, because I was a prick purist.

Then a friend who got me to try pineapple jalapeño pizza. That sweet and spicy mix changed me, and I've become much more adventurous with food in general.

My new outlook on weird food is that if it seems like a weird pairing but is somewhat popular, it's probably amazing.

Unless it has cilantro. Keep that soapy weed out of my food.

I fucking love pineapple on pizza, so long as the pizza is fresh and not frozen.

Fun fact, “Hawaiian” pizza with pineapple was invented at Satellite Pizza in Chatham-Kent, a small town in rural Ontario, Canada.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

If it was invented in Hawaii, it would just be called pizza (in Hawaiian)

[–] TownhouseGloryHole@lemmy.world 1 points 44 minutes ago

And would have included spam.

[–] TownhouseGloryHole@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Hawaiian pizza, invented by a Greek in Canada!

[–] FrChazzz@lemmus.org 3 points 4 hours ago

Which is based on a German dish, yeah? Toast Hawaii?

I mean we do, but its basically nutella and bread because it's just the dough+nutella

What we really accept here that would make no sense to american is

Wurstel and patatine on pizza Kebap on pizza (full kebap) Also seafood

[–] AbsolutelyClawless@piefed.social 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The last two are pretty standard in Europe, I'd say. But the first one I've never heard of.

[–] PeroBasta@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

You mean the wurstel and frenchfries?

We call it Americana and it's ate by children and tasteless people.

[–] PixelGhost@lemmy.eco.br 2 points 6 hours ago

I prefer bananas🍌. With cinnamon.

[–] MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works 37 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I think actual Italians wouldn't mind that much. Have you seen the original pizzas? They're mostly fruit.

[–] Varesti@lemmy.zip 8 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (2 children)

Oh? Interesting.

What type of combinations would they make?

[–] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Pixel_Jock_17@piefed.ca 7 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Oh were arguing this now? I thought it was like confirmed and done, its a fruit. Pretty cool

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 20 minutes ago

Botanically, yes, cullinarily, no

[–] Varesti@lemmy.zip 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Might as well leave it neutral. 🤷‍♀️

Nah, I lean optimistic. Upvote but stipulating that's it's for photo!

[–] Ariselas@piefed.ca 1 points 6 hours ago

First time?

The Hawaiian pizza is a pizza invented in Canada!

[–] daggermoon@piefed.world 9 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I saw this meme for the first time nearly a decade ago but it still makes me laugh.

I am compelled. When poor Italians came to the US way back in the day, they were getting jobs where they made a bit more money which allowed them to basically unlock a lot more toppings than they used to use in Italy. They would add all sorts of weird things. I don't recall anyone using pineapple at that time but if they had access to it I'm 100% sure they would've tried bc it matched the spirit of their other toppings ventures. Anyway, pineapple, bacon bits, and jalapeño is a really good combo.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 3 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

The other way round. Americans are actually quite conservative when it comes to pizzatoppings. Most Americans have never heard of tuna or potatoes as toppings for example. They seem to stick to a handful of different meats, and that is basically it. There is a lot more variety in other countries, and also in Italy in particular.

[–] Varesti@lemmy.zip 10 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I don't recall anyone using pineapple at that time...

Vampire spotted!

[–] ankanamoon@sh.itjust.works 8 points 9 hours ago

You don't recall eh, you over a 100 years old? In all seriousness pineapple on pizza originated in Canada.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 7 points 9 hours ago

Hawaian pizza was "invented" in the 60s in London Ontario area.

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

One of my grandparents is an Italian immigrant and it’s very much this. Grew up with “here try this” and “have more” because they’d be damned if anyone under their roof went hungry or felt like they had to hold back. They also like all sorts of pizza toppings, because they had to eat nothing but dandelions while hiding from Nazis.

Having grown up poor myself I’m a lot the same way as an adult, too. If someone wants food or drink in my home or while out with me they get it, no questions asked. Adventurousness is encouraged, and a happy belly means I did my job right.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 3 points 8 hours ago

Pepperoni, pineapple, and jalapeno is also good.

Peaches come from a can

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago

Store bought canned peaches are trash because they can them before they are ripe and this they are just tasteless and crunchy. If you actually can your own peaches they are pretty tasty.

So peaches in season are good but the rest of the year my own canned peaches are great.

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

I can't tell if people are downvoting this because it's reddit or the title they should actually watch the video it's great

[–] theskyisfalling@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 hours ago

Peaches you say? I'm gonna have to give that a go because pineapple is unironically one of the best pizza toppings for me.
