You need to stop thinking like the fediverse is a popularity contest. The fediverse is not about anyone "winning", it's not about one app or service becoming "the" place to be. The fediverse is not like the big tech closed social media platforms.

If you like Piefed, you should use it. If you prefer Lemmy, use that. If you want to make your own fediverse service, you can do that.

If Piefed suddenly gets super popular, everyone wins cause Piefed connects to everyone else, like Lemmy and Mastodon does too.

A rising tide lifts all boats. The point of the fediverse is not winning, but choice. Everyone has their own choice to make about their use of software, and nobody has to force that choice upon you.

if they do we'll know for certain that it's receiving funding from the cia.

Well I missed this one…did you just make that up or you have a link to where this was discussed?

unless the cia declassifies some documents of course i can't prove it, but i mean, it's in the name. piefed. jokes aside, it is really strange a a literal half assed clone shows up when the software run by communists is being successful. with the amount of blackops these nazis sponsor i don't really see what would be strange about it.

Ha well Id be shocked if you did. Yah I can see the proverbial dots there, just was curious how far the supposed rumor went. Thanks.

tldr: the cia and state department are legally required to share what they've done in the past 25 to 40 years and the stuff they've released so far shows a well documented history of the american government giving weapons, money, mercenaries, etc. to any organization that is the self declared enemy of a progressive movement that's going left.

in this context, it means that they're referring the parts where the cia gave money to italian and spanish letists -- anarchists in this case -- that caused political violence in western europe to prevent their governments and people from becoming "too progressive".
