I'm glad my current phone has this. Earphones with the cable seems to handle calling while bicycling better ✨

I refurbished my old iPod, new motherboard, new screen, new battery and SD card mod. Given the phone sizes today it feels super light in comparison. Plus battery last much longer now. I'd rather have a headphone jack but it's actually cool to rock an iPod in 2026.
I get the sentiment, but I'm trying to carry on with the times.
One of my best purchases in recent years is a Bluetooth DAC/Amp with a headphone out. I think it's a good compromise - I'm not committing to just one set of headphones/earphones, it has (to my ears) better sound quality than my last phone with 3.5 mm out (the better circuitry more than makes up for the loss of quality of Bluetooth - which I'm probably not going to perceive in the outside noise anyway), I can use it plugged in over USB-C too if I want. It even has a replaceable battery (!!). The only downside over traditional Bluetooth headphones is that I don't have ANC.
I used to carry a dedicated audio player some years ago and it was fine for what it was - press play, shove it in my pocket and carry on; but with a phone that I take out and back in all the time the wired approach doesn't work, especially with most earphones having a cable barely long enough to reach my pocket.
When, thanks to linux, you manage to resurrect a 10-year-old descent specs pc and you have all the goodies.

Kept my galaxy s8 to use as a DAP. It does everything I need it to but I'm unsure if that phone will be on google's lockdown list happening soon. Fuck google for that.
I want it back so bad 😞
But only when wie see this meme again.
Everytime I have to use that removedass dongle I think about this.
Let's not forget our dearly departed SD Card slot.
I wanted to add more space to my stuff, too.
Bruh, I had a phone with an infrared blaster for television. The moment fairphone comes out with something that works with a graphene. I'm in.
I've had a Sony phone for my last 2 phones, so quite some time. Great units, WITH that delicious headphones jack AND microSD slot. Praying to the phone gods that this continues.
Didn't know there was anyone still doing that. I assume no removable battery? Any pre installed bloatware?
Lots of Chinese phones definitely do IR blaster, dual SIM and SD card. I don't think the headphone jack is as common since it steals a lot of room for something that most people actually do not use or want.
mine is dual SIM. i don't think i've ever used that slot since my cellphone telephone company moved to eSIMs. I'd rather have the microSD slot
The Motorola Moto G (at least for now) also has both
I've own 3 Moto Gs. They are good budget bricks. But they do not age well as far as software goes.
Current phone is my first without it. Couldn't find a small enough phone with one - I don't care about specs, but phones aren't made for human hands any more.
Some people have big hands
Yeah me, lol. Phones are still too big.
As someone with hands on the bigger side I still find today's phones too big. My current one is like 6.8" (I chose it for other reasons and the size was a compromise); if I have the choice, I'd go for 6" at most.
I was gonna say, I personally love big phones for that reason. The puny ones are so hard to do anything on.
I came across my 25 year old still working (presumably because who knows these days) Etymotic buds in the lil case in my draw the other day, and had a sad face :(
I remember bugging them, paid a high price and justified it by telling my self they will last decades. Little did I know much of that time would be spent im their case, in the draw :(
She got down on hands and knees
One ear against the ground
Hoping to hear something
But the dirt made not a sound tonight
-from a song I've listened to countless times through my phone's aux jack
I thought it was gonna be Saddam down there
The headphone wire also serves as a FM radio antenna. You can't get that with wireless headphones or a connection via the USB jack.
Remember when they first made the change and all over social media you had the fake videos of people showing you how to drill into your phone because -- "The jack is still there guys! promise"
Sony phones have headphone jacks. I'm typing this on my Sony phone which has a headphone jack.
