The culture wars shit that ya see on social media
Opinions? I prefer to call them facts!
Cheesecake. I love it both with and without raisins.
Eating Asian food using forks. Preparing meat well-done. Cutting pasta with a knife. Using cutlery when eating pizza. Basically everything that people say has a "right way" of eating. What difference does it make to you if you're not the one eating?
Coke, Pepsi and most all cola flavored things donβt taste different enough to matter.
Except Diet Coke. Attempt to landing there.
Sports.
I feel like Maurice and Roy watching football in IT Crowdβs βAre we not men?β-episode.
I think powerscaling is stupid so any powerscaling discussion beyond "this is stupid" is not something I feel strongly about
what does it mean?
I generally agree, but I can make one exception: when there's a clear power system it can be fun to talk about how one power would fare against another. Not so much scaling the characters themselves but pitching their powers' themes against one another, like some advanced rock-paper-scissors thing. One Piece used to allow for things like this at one point, (before new power systems were included) like rubber > thunder > ice > rubber.
Pre timeskip one piece was so good
Who or what is "the best" of something. Any genre I can think of: Sports, art, food, engineering, design, whatever. Or I guess I kind of do, if you have some wild take that I don't understand at all, but the discussions where people are like "lebron or kobe?" or "poe or shakesspeare?" I just do not get. "What's the best anime?" eh. There's no best of anything, it's all just a matter of definition.
Hockey is the best sport.
Sure
Might be controversial but: the whole Israel/Gaza stuff.
I don't know much about it. It seems super complicated and controversial. I even realize that it's controversial not to have an opinion on this topic!
But I really can't get myself to have an opinion on something that I am clearly no expert in, something that frequently seems to lead people into arguments with others and something that, sorry to say, really doesn't affect me at all in my life. There are wars all over the world, dunno why this one is the one people have such strong opinion about.
yeah besides a "it would be nice if there was peace" i can't say i care about it to the point of spending the time to form an informed opinion
Pretty easy to motivate your own learning:
- Does your nation fund or is complicit in supporting Israel?
- Are your tax dollars being used to vaporize children?
- Now do you have an opinion, or at least are willing to watch a documentary or something?
- i don't know
- i don't know
- nah, i'm good
Why don't you ask your favorite AI to tell you what to think then?
Honestly I would rather say "I don't know" than adopt some random opinion from some AI bot. And I think you should prefer people saying "I don't know" rather than just following what the AI bots are saying. Do you really want AI bots to decide this stuff?
whoooosh
it was sarcasm. TBF it wasn't obvious, I wish we lived in a world when it still was.
because i can think for myself when it comes to things i care about
I want you to repeat that to yourself, slowly.
Is it just that you only care when it starts happening to you? Or is it just that since you do not know yet, you simply cannot know or care? Why not just shock your brain to forget everything that bothers you, you'll be so happy!
Yes, there is a long and complicated history, but it is irrelevant in the face of a very active ongoing genocide. I accept that you could somehow not be exposed to enough information to be able to see that, but it is still shocking not to be able to form an opinion on ethnic cleansing and genocide. I suppose it is the product of propaganda and the culture war.
Music and tv shows.
Seeing as we're on lemmy and I'm sure other people here hold very strong opinions on these things:
- terminals
- text editors
I really don't understand why people get so fixated on these things. Can I type in it, and they do the thing? 10/10 no notes.
Happy enough w/ most terminal emulators, but with Vim, it's not hard finding programs for just about anything that mimic the keybind philosophy and I can keep my mits on the homerow where (i feel) they belong.
For me it's muscle memory. I've grown used to all sorts of features and shortcuts over time and I can work faster when I can use them freely without thinking about it. If I switch tools I need to adjust to everything that is different about it and that takes time - and I can't really develop muscle memory for two different tools, I need to forget one to get used to another.
As a quick example: I've been using alt+arrow for two decades to navigate between individual words within variable names in camelCase. Every text editor I've used over time supported this as the OS itself implements it. Then comes VSCode with its own implementation overriding this and removing this capacity and then every time I need to navigate between words I'll either have to use a mouse, move one character at a time or even worse: press this shortcut I'm used to and trigger some other feature that is assigned to it that I didn't want to trigger.
Terminal emulators I only notice when they are a problem and for some reason, terminal emulators are on my mind again recently. :-(
Pineapple on pizza. I don't care. I don't order it, but will eat it and not complain if served it.
Celebrity gossip. I find it really difficult to care about what some celebrity said about something.
The Beatles. Theyβre fine. Just fine.
They are fine now that a million other bands copied what they were doing and tried their best to improve on their formula. The fact their music is still fine today means it must have been out of this world back then.
(I personally don't enjoy their music at all though)
I don't have a strong opinion on how Trump should die... only that he should and soon.
Sports? I think it's a tribalistic waste of time and money, but people are allowed to like what they like.
Temperature. People all "it's too hot, I'm cold" just shut up and go outside already. You can swim, start a fire, get naked, nestle in some brush, there's nothing to get worked up about. You're a self-regulating biological process that can both sweat and turn cheese you ate a week ago into heat. Those are turtle problems.
People putting pineapple on their pizza.
Whatever man. Some people like opera music. Some people like golden showers. And some people like putting pineapple on their pizza. Can't we all just get along?
i genuinely dont care about gender at all. I'll fight tooth and nail for my trans brothers and sisters but in a perfect world I'd never think about it even a little
Other people's lives. I don't get why how other people live bother people. If they like the same sex, go for it. If they like to dress up as a goat on the weekend? Ok, cool. It's your life, do what you want with it.
