I'm looking for options on ducks specifically. As in the bird. What's your hottest duck take?

Duck eggs > goose eggs. Even though they’re smaller, the flavour and texture is better. Goose eggs are overrated.

MR ducks

MR not ducks

OSAR, CDEDBD legs?

LIB, MR ducks.

I always wonder about the context of this exchange... What's the scenario in which pointing out the existence of legs convinces someone that they are in fact looking at ducks?

[–] likebudda@reddthat.com 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

You're chilling with your buddy and see duck shaped objects in the distance. From your vantage point, the uniquely distinct itty bitty legs of the ducks are clearly visible and the facthood of the ducks (duckhood) is undeniable to you. Your much taller buddy cannot see the legs from his angle and thus a legend is born.

Good try, but somehow we need to account for why they DON'T look like ducks when you can't see the legs, but suddenly DO look like ducks when you get a glimpse of gams.

I was shocked when I learned that male ducks have corkscrew penises and that ducks mostly reproduce through gangrape 😳

These facts changed my opinion of ducks

[–] Quicky@piefed.social 4 points 4 hours ago

I witnessed this once at a lake in New Zealand, when a bunch of ducks were gang raping this one female. My girlfriend at the time demanded that I go into the lake and try and break it up.

Yeah nah, that’s their hood. I ain’t getting involved.

Yep doesn’t get more fucked up than this one, it’s up there with dragonflies.

[–] tottle@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

What's up with dragonflies?

[–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 3 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Their mating ritual is brutal

Dragonfly mating is a competitive “contact sport” where a male identifies a female, subdues her in flight, and then links to her so they form a wheel formation to mate. Because females may mate with multiple partners, males may also scoop out or remove earlier sperm and guard the female afterward.

The first step in the mating process is for the male dragonfly to subdue the female. The typical scenario looks like this. While in flight, the male approaches the female from behind, grabs hold of her thorax with his legs, and sometimes bites her in an effort to quickly subdue her. Pulling his abdomen forward, he uses his anal appendages (cerci) to hold her by the neck while continuing to fly with her in a formation referred to as tandem linkage.

"he uses his anal appendages (cerci) to hold her by the neck" is certainly a collection of words.

[–] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 2 points 2 hours ago

Yah there was a deliberate choice made when using that vernacular lol.

Thats an expected response lol

[–] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

The corkscrew penis is wild because I'm under the impression that it evolved that way so that it would be harder for the female ducks to escape, that is so fucked up.

[–] SmokeInFog@midwest.social 5 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

It's weirder and more depraved than that: their penis explodes out of them in what is called explosive eversion and they have to regrow them every year. This is so they can find their way down the maze of duck vaginas

[–] workerONE@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

What the duck?

Nature is so wierd. A strange force where persistence and randomness intersect in all sorts of ways.

It is a true joy in life to sit back and enjoy a duck butt when you’re sitting by a lake and one does that little flip-dunk.

[–] DriftingLynx@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 hours ago

Deep down inside they all wish they were a goose.

[–] Bumrocky@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Muscovy Ducks are as obnoxious as geese

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 4 hours ago

https://www.birdful.org/is-a-muscovy-duck-a-duck-or-goose/

They're really sweet when domesticated. They sit in your lap and "hug" you by wrapping their necks around yours, when you pet them, scratch their heads, speak lovingly. They follow like dogs. They poo a lot.

[–] borderstolutenfolk@lemmy.wtf 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The amount of controversial opinions about ducks should be zero.

[–] tottle@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)
[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 2 points 2 hours ago

And apparently controversial.

[–] Admetus@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 hours ago

Following winkly's comment, my most controversial take was when I saw a male duck really going for it, I said: 'that duck is really trying to rape the female.' And he just looked at me for a few seconds and just went wut, 'They're ducks...'

[–] lntl@lemmy.ml -1 points 5 hours ago

Its enjoyable to go out late autumn to shoot them in the head while aflight.
