It’s frankly shocking to learn how many weak, servile cowards there are among the US’s top generals.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

TBH I think he's just sending ships all over the world so nobody forgets that they're his, like big toys. I wonder what it costs to run all of these fleets like this?

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

Bringing peace, freedom, and democracy to a bunch of stinky people! U! S! A!

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

that's a weird shaped lump of shit on their shirt.

Couple days after saying he can prevent elections by going to war

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's really too bad most US citizens are genuinely too dense to put this together.

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What are you talking about? This is literally being talked about all the time.

Get off your high horse, ya dunce

[–] HaveMeOnYourPodcast@lemmy.world 47 points 1 week ago (4 children)

It's being talked about in places like this where a tiny fraction of the people are aware of what's going on but not between normal everyday people. I can tell you with no uncertainty that only two or three people in my entire workplace of a few hundred people are even remotely plugged in. Hell even the union reps are asleep at the wheel. They're too busy trying to take care of their kids or pay their rent.

Thank you, it's not like a third of the country voted for all this shit and another third apathetically didn't care what the fuck happened.

A few days after enquiring about his Nobel Peace Price nomination.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Trump is just trying to find the right war…you know not hard … not to fast… like a dumb ass version of Goldie locks.

I hate this timeline -_-

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 week ago

Exactly, trump only cares about himself, so either this move will generate him money directly or it is to make media stop talking about Epstein.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 week ago

just a pedo doing a bit of war hawkery as a treat.

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 52 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the US will never stop meddling internationally as long as they can keep the majority of us focused on homegrown stressors directly impacting our daily lives. they have wrapped themselves up in too many interests. Venezuela now, Laos then. who knows where next?

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 33 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

He's not merely looking to meddle. He's looking to make money for the oligarch class. There's a ton of natural resources and labour for them to exploit there. If you're organized you may get some of it.

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 20 points 1 week ago

"meddle" is a placeholder for whatever evil you want to take its place.

[–] jcb20165@kbin.melroy.org 30 points 1 week ago (4 children)

But ma When are we getting the Epstein Files

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We got the Epstein files at home.

It looks like a Bill Clinton flew on his private jet 37 times and complained that Epstein stole his child prostitutes while also being best friends with Epstein. Case closed! Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Nobel Peace Prize in sight

[–] glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz -2 points 6 days ago

The Venezuelan dictatorship must fall for peace!

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 10 points 1 week ago

As soon as he gets the Peace Prize he's demanding, he's going to start wars all over the world.

Then he's going to have draft.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 24 points 1 week ago

dont you mean trump deploys, EPSTEIN-Distracting warships to venuezeula.

[–] mehquestion@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Just a reminder the Trump tried to organize a coup against Venezuela the last time he was in office (John Bolton, the national security advisor, said so in an interview)

It was a soft coup in the guise of that guy: Juan Guido.

He popped out of nowhere, months (maybe even a year) after Venezuela's elections, with the US supporting him as the legitimate winner. And because the US does it, so do all the puppet European states.

It was really confusing episode to me at the time. Only when Bolton's interview came out did it make sense to me.

[–] ChokingHazard@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Maduro was impeached and refused to step down. They didn’t need a coup, just to support the constitutional government.

There's also oil in Guyana that America wants and Venezuela wants from Guyana, so Venezuela is bringing up an old claim to the Essiquibo region of Guyana to have access to the coast for oil. It's always about oil. America already owned the politicians in Guyana and it's a little harder to control Venezuela.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

One more reason to hurry over to renewables

[–] Quadhammer@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

We can actually make oil from plastic now so

[–] snausagesinablanket@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I already knew this because Pete Kegseth included me in his Signal chat.

EPSTEIN

(͡•_ ͡• )

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If he declares war, he can cancel the next election. Is that how that works?

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He can't declare war OR cancel elections.

Won't stop him from doing both, though.

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I thought there was something in the constitution that let the president suspend elections if the US is at war? If not, my bad, I must have misunderstood.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You may be thinking of Lincoln suspending the writ of habeas corpus during the Civil War?

Constitution, Article 1, Section 9, Clause 2:

The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.

Lincoln signed off on a law saying that the President could suspend the right under the same conditions.

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

Possibly, I can't remember. It's possible my brain is making stuff up.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

We've had lots of elections in time of war. The major conflicts of the 20th century that resulted in a military draft century (WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam) all had Presidential election. Hell, there was an election during the US Civil War.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

No such thing.

[–] HexadecimalSky@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

The lesson we learned from the korean war and the vietnam war was that sticking our nose too far into other peoples business is always a great decision. Civilian casualties and traumatized youth give the military industrial conplex a chubby, and the federal government loves its war buddy.

[–] Vikthor@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I am afraid such a war unfortunately can't change Trump's regime.
