Trump’s record suggests that meetings with him frequently fail. Instead, Albanese has an important agenda to pursue at the UN in New York, and when dealing with the US better outcomes are more likely if Australia develops its own policies in its own interests.

There is no productive bilateral relationship to be had with Trump's USA.

It'd be funny if he just didn't bother meeting with the US president. Even better if he was in town doing stuff at the UN and then just not even trying to meet.

Yeah I agree we appear to be putting way too much into this meeting like it is going to save us in some way. At the end of the day I'd rather not be seen trying to appease/stroke Trump just because we 'think' it's the right thing to do. That's all Trump wants is a stroke of his ego so that he can use it as a weapon some other way.
