Companies approached by the eSafety commissioner this month about the requirement to prevent under 16s from holding social media accounts from 10 December have conducted a self-assessment that the commissioner will use to decide if they need to comply with the ban.

eSafety will not be formally declaring which service meets the criteria but companies that eSafety believes meet the criteria will be expected to comply.

use Codeberg, kids

but seriously, how do they even pretend it's about protecting children / teenagers when github is on the list?

They don't know what github is

Our kids are eating food from fucking GrubHub. Is this the future America wants?

Unattended children will be taught the C programming language.

I guess the authorities think it's like pornhub but like with nude middle-aged deadbeats or something from the name.

Or, just look at the logo/mascot! It's obviously filled with furry tentacle porn! /s

I agree no child should be allowed on github! Think they could become a JavaScript developer!

Protect the children from the horrors of And spending 5 days realising you fat fingered a ; for a :

Expect a rise in teens on the Fediverse as this all escalates. Makes me wonder if a well moderated teen targeted instance with very public and transparent admins wouldn't be a good idea right about now.

I would like to see how YouTube would be like without under 18s. Look I am against internet censorship but, I can't stand these dumb ass YouTubers churning out brain rot content aimed purely at children.

There's no way this can work.

They have come up with a radical idea, but surely in execution they've realised it's not feasible but are too chicken to back down. It'll probably end up being a DNS block or a "if you are over 18 click to enter" pop ups
