How much can you blame people for an education system that left them unprepared?

[–] Samsuma@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago

Exactly this. Liberalism having a stranglehold on academia is a major part of the reason why people end up with the conclusions from the top panel.

I can't blame them for being ignorant, but I can definitely blame them for spreading their ignorance while belittling the actual experts.

The loudest science deniers in the West are Christians who don't operate on empirical evidence as a source of truth anyway.

I assume in other places it's whatever religion is the most common locally. I'm sure there are Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Jewish, and Buddhist antivaxxers too.

When your faith has taught you from day 1 to ignore everything contradictory or you'll go to hell for not believing, you tend to not appreciate just how rigorous science is and assume it's just some other faith that's at odds with yours.

I always said school teaches you critical thinking. In other words, to think for yourself.

Not really… They teach you the hegemonic ideas

You just changed my entire perspective about school and useless subjects. Though that also counts as common sense, don’t make absurd assumptions about things you don’t understand.
