Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

MODERATORS

The founder of the party is Salvatore Nicotra, former head of the Belgian National Front (NF). According to him, the name TRUMP is an abbreviation for Tous RΓ©unis pour l'Union des Mouvements Populistes ("All United for the Union of Populist Movements"). The politician explicitly associates the party’s brand with the image of Donald Trump.

The only thing that would make this even more ridiculous is if the Trump organization sues them for copyright infringement.

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 2 points 42 minutes ago (1 children)

It's not funny and sad, it's hilarious and deeply depressing.

[–] Hyperrealism@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 31 minutes ago

Every time I want to quote the Smiths' That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore, I remember Morrissey is a fascist supporter now.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 4 points 3 hours ago

Ah, the united union of bootlickers. Too bad their role model probably couldn't even point at Belgium on a map.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I guess they like pedofiles and corruption

[–] griD@feddit.org 3 points 6 hours ago

Indeed there was some.... minor... trouble with pedophelia in the 80/90ies in Belgium.
"Marc Dutroux" is your entry point to a rabbit hole (literally filled with the bodies of small children) as deep as the Epstein one.

Spoilers: Nothing really happened to powerful people back then.

So, yeah.

Citizen Dick cancelling all shows in Belgium.

[–] germanatlas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 63 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Nothing sounds more patriotic than a party named after a foreign despot

[–] naeap@sopuli.xyz 3 points 9 hours ago

Well, if he isn't for his own people, he must be for you, no?

Imagine watching the US president right now and thinking "Yep, that's who I'll associate myself with!".

[–] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 15 points 13 hours ago

The world has gone mad.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 38 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Lol this is completely bound to fail. Trump is in no way popular here, probably because most people have some basic level of education and critical thinking skills. For now.

[–] dumbass@piefed.social 9 points 12 hours ago

Good luck getting people to search your political party up on google, that shits gonna be on page 3.

[–] EtAl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Fantastic timing. Someone should make a counter party called BUBBA.

[–] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 6 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, but it will only be the cheap dollar store knock off pedos.

[–] RaoulDuke85@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 hours ago

They only go after child sex dolls.

[–] Gieselbrecht@feddit.org 3 points 9 hours ago

Belgium is a beautiful city, but I don't like this

[–] _Nico198X_@europe.pub 9 points 12 hours ago

Any "European" that kowtows to the US like this is sycophancy of the highest order. Traitors, deeply unserious, and shameful behaviour.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 27 points 16 hours ago

That's super edgy, man. So cool. /s

[–] Embargo@lemmy.zip 15 points 14 hours ago

We have a guy that ran as Aussie Trump in Australia and one other right-wing fuckwit party is named Trumpet of Patriots, primarily because they run on trumpist policies. The motherfucker has really made being alive a chore.

[–] RaoulDuke85@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 hours ago

It's going to be hilarious when they rebrand their name if Trump gets fried from the Epstein files.

[–] Kennystillalive@feddit.org 8 points 15 hours ago

Do they wear diapers as a kinship symbol?

[–] Melchior@feddit.org 1 points 9 hours ago

At least Trump can no longer blame Brussels....

[–] Anyone@mander.xyz 8 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I don't pass by often here in this community. This is why I remember that OP posted this same report 6 days ago - and has now deleted it apparently only to repost it again (you can see my comment back then in my history, back then @schizoidman posted a link by Firstpost).

This is so ridiculous that you can only shake your head, but at least it fits to OP's (and feddit.org's?) anti-democratic propaganda feed.

[–] Cassa@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

oh wow, this is right - but it seems like one post survived; posted to nottheonion

donno if this is to make fun of lol party named trump or your mention of anti-propaganda.

[–] Anyone@mander.xyz 4 points 15 hours ago

Just look at OP's post history.

"named after Donald Trump", you say. Hmmm, what gave it away? The TRUMP part? (journalists doing journalists things)

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 10 hours ago

How would you phrase it? The word "trump" existed before Donnie, this is just making the connection explicit instead of "well it COULD be a coincidence", especially since it's also an acronym (backronym).
