!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

So I deactivated, and all the way permanently deleted my Facebook profile back in must've been '22 ior '23, and I'm aware of the spyware nightmare it poses but unfortunately I'm thinking I need to set up a new profile in order to use their marketplace, I have a certain little something of decent value that I'm looking into all feasible channels of reselling it, be it locally or shipping it thru some site or service. Obviously this hesitantly so, I hate Facebook and want to go about this in the most op-sec conscious way, or as much as possible for an armchair noob like me who hasn't quite learned the way around the whole root or kernel or anything crazy. Talk to me in college drop-out, duckduckgo terms. This is a brand new android phone with old SIM is that helps.

I would use any other venue available than FB Marketplace, honestly.

In a lot of places it's the only serious option for local sales. I'd love to see better alternatives push FB out, but until that happens, gotta do what you gotta do.

Do you (or your friends) have an old device?

– All you need is for FB is an internet connection. A friend of mine got an old Huawei from a thrift store and a TextNow SIM card for $5 from Target; BestBuy, WalMart and convenience stores sell them as well along with 7-day trial SIM cards.

You must use VPN. Proton’s free version should be fine. If you don’t have VPN, Proton is currently offering a 50% off on VPN until December 7 – I think it’s for 2 years for $59.76 (No, I don’t work for Proton but I paid almost $72 for a subscription five days ago. Mullvad is also highly recommended, it’s about 5€ a month and no long term commitments (I also use Mullvad and like it a lot).

– I provided her with a face (free) from thispersondoesnotexist.com There are other websites, so pick one that you like.

After you have VPN on and a phone number (textnow, burner, hushed, textfree - pick one), then download FB and create a new account.

Use your DuckDuckGo email address! FB will hoard whatever it can from that device, as long as you don’t do anything else (especially banking) but FB you should be fine.

– If you want to create an identity, there are plenty of websites. The two below are behind Cloudflare so you’ll probably need to CAPTCHA to get through (they may be the same company):

https://www.fakenamegenerator.com/ https://fauxid.com/

No CAPTCHA needed to get in: https://generate-random.org/persons

  1. Get your email address and a phone number ready.
  2. Install VPN – for an old iOS you might need to have iOS 16 running (as per Mullvad and Proton); you need iOS 15 for FB
  3. Dowload FB
  4. Check out posts by @Charger8232@lemmy.ml especially if you’re interested in privacy and security.

The steps above are what my friend did for her FB marketplace account, then she switched to an old iPhone.
Good luck!

Check first what information is required to sign up again with a new account. Like the other commenter said, they might be asking for actual ID now just to sign up. In that case, just sell somewhere else. If you are able to sign up without providing any personal information, use facebook on a browser only. Firefox with uBO and facebook container. Use an email specifically made for that account and don’t use it anywhere else.

Just sell it through someone else who has an account.

A family member, friend, neighbor, etc.

You could use a live linux boot disc and don't save any info. Just need another disc to write the pics, or you could use it on top of another installation. Boot to live until you sell and get one of those extra numbers that forwards phone calls to your real number. All this could also be solved with shitty burner phone.

What type of organisation are you part of that you need to guard the OpSec (operational security) of? Are you sure you don't mean PerSec (personal security)?

That said, please try selling your item in EBay before using Facebook, like, it's not great, but Facebook collects so much more data, even on an empty device. Iirc they need to 'verify' your identity with an ID document.
