"For too long, this department has sent our best and brightest officers to Harvard, hoping the university would better understand and appreciate our warrior class," Hegseth said. "Instead, too many of our officers came back looking too much like Harvard — heads full of globalist and radical ideologies that do not improve our fighting ranks."

In a separate post on X, Hegseth wrote, "Harvard is woke; The War Department is not."

Republicans don't like an educated populace. "Smart people don't like me"

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 47 points 2 months ago

also the more an officer understands humanity the less likely the are to follow inhumane orders

Harvard isn't where the smart people go to become smarter. It's where the rich kids go to network and socially reproduce their capitalist values system.

The decision by the Pentagon is a political realignment. No doubt they'll start recruiting more heavily from Texas, Florida, Stanford and the Trump aligned tech sector.

“Our warrior class”

Yikes.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 27 points 2 months ago (2 children)

They have plans to send their Christian warrior class of fanatics out to conquer the Americas.

[–] artifex@piefed.social 14 points 2 months ago

I’d be thrilled to get rid of them but couldn’t in good conscience send them somewhere else. We need to clean up our own messes like grownups.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Those idiots. If B5 taught me anything it's that the religious caste and the warrior caste should be different people.

this department has sent our best and brightest officers to Harvard, hoping the university would better understand and appreciate our warrior class,

That's, uh, not why DoD occasionally sends officers to Harvard and other elite universities. DoD does this because they want some of their officers to have high quality advanced degrees.

You can't expect Secretary Kegseth to understand such high-falutin' concepts.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 42 points 2 months ago

They come back from Harvard smarter, think too much, and asking questions.

Can’t have that.

[–] xylogx@lemmy.world 30 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Where are they going to send them instead? Prager U?

[–] Zirconium@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"the best military strategy is to pray, as they say there are no atheists in foxholes. God will protect every faithful warrior - Mr. Prager

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago

Mr. Prager

The evil universe twin of Mr. Rogers

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 23 points 2 months ago

So the war department is sleepy. Got it.

As much as Harvard perpetuates some pretty terrible aspects of american culture, it's still top tier on eduction.

Way to take an arrow to the knee Hegseth.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

it’s still top tier on eduction

It's not.

Harvard is a business school instrumental in networking between wealthy families.

The education they provide can be found at any state school.

considering brown and rainbow people as "equals" is now "globalist and radical ideologies"

[–] ordnance_qf_17_pounder@reddthat.com 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Better to be woke than fascist

[–] vinceman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 months ago

Better dead than a fascist.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 12 points 2 months ago

Well yeah Harvard is obligated to treat women as equals, can't have that

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 11 points 2 months ago

An elite university, full of woke people. If being woke makes you smarter, maybe its why Hegseth is so insecure.

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 months ago

But Harvard spent SO Much Time and Money bending the Knee! HOW could THIS Happen?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io -5 points 2 months ago

Adding to my somewhat short list of good things Trump did (I consider a dumber officer corps for the American war machine a good thing).
