A place to share alternatives to popular online services that can be self-hosted without giving up privacy or locking you into a service you don't control.

Rules:

  1. Be civil: we're here to support and learn from one another. Insults won't be tolerated. Flame wars are frowned upon.

  2. No spam posting.

  3. Posts have to be centered around self-hosting. There are other communities for discussing hardware or home computing. If it's not obvious why your post topic revolves around selfhosting, please include details to make it clear.

  4. Don't duplicate the full text of your blog or github here. Just post the link for folks to click.

  5. Submission headline should match the article title (don’t cherry-pick information from the title to fit your agenda).

  6. No trolling.

  7. No low-effort posts. This is subjective and will largely be determined by the community member reports.

Okay here is the thing. I have a garmin forerunner which i love for i can read the screen without my reading glasses. I use it for running and cycling. I pull the data directly from it on my debian desktop and upload gpxfiles. A huawei band9 is used for swimming.

For privacy, and as part of usa ban and leaving big tech wanna leave garmin and strava preferably after data export. User friendly and ease of use play hardly a role.

Any recomandations for self hosted solutions? It looks especially hard to avoid strava to get my swim data from the huawei app exported. Buying new device('s) isn't on top of the list but not out of the question.

From a cursory glance it looks lile they might work with gadget bridge:

https://gadgetbridge.org/gadgets/

Which can do auto export which you could maybe feed into selfhosted solutions like the mentioned wanderer? There's also Dawarich, not sure if that would make sense here.

This. I have a Garmin watch and it works perfectly with Gadgetbridge.

@redlemace On the top of my head I know of these projects:
@endurain and Wanderer (https://wanderer.to/)
I've hosted both of them and they work very good. They serve slightly different purposes: Wanderer is more focused on the social and sharing part, while endurain is more for personal fitness tracking.

Absutely Endurain. Wanderer has a different focus.

You want endurain I believe.

Its under heavy development but its also quite stable and capable.

Don't give up your Garmin watch, just don't install the garmin app on your phone and download raw data from it like you already do.
