Link didn’t open for me, which is a shame because I wanted to rebut this 👀

Nice, thank you! That one worked!

Also, after reading, I have noting to rebut, I thought it was a balanced take.

My main thought is reflected in the article, which is basically privacy good, and that you can’t have the good without the bad. To me, that doesn’t make Monero something that shouldn’t exist, society just needs to accept that enabling privacy preservation comes with trade offs.

I think my only bone to pick here is that it throws all illicit usage of crypto in the same category, which just isn’t a good mental model. DNMs are just not bad for society on the same level that hundreds of millions of hacked money flowing in to North Korea’s missile program is. DNMs I feel like are a neutral force because in many ways they help reduce harm as it relates to drugs while also causing new harm through the dark SaSS products sold on there. NK building nukes is pure bad.

And every tool humanity creates can be used for both good and evil.

You can use a hammer to build a house or you can use a hammer to kill somebody by hitting them over the head.

A car can get you distances that would have taken a horse and buggy days, or it can be used to hurt people in crowds.

Nuclear energy can be used to destroy a city or light hundreds of millions of homes for decades or centuries.

There is no tool that is inherently good or inherently evil. The person wielding the tool is what determines how it is used.

Well put! If they put the nuance in the title though, why would I click 🤣
