Messi met with Trump, my GOAT has fallen. Maradona would've spit on his face.

💔 i’m not even surprised and i’m still sad. like i knew it was 80% chance

Just want to say that I’m really stoked there’s genuine community and activity both here and across lemmygrad / lemmy. It’s been harder and harder to swallow my disgust using reddit and feeding the machine just to keep in touch with the world. Thank you for the work you’ve put into this space, comrades.

I recently found this place/lemmygrad and I am so glad that I did. I had recently gotten banned from what I thought was a leftist forum for questioning the propaganda against DPRK and was honestly kinda lost for a while before this place. I've not posted before (until this one) but it's been vital for having me informed on the state of the world without being influenced by imperialistic bias.

Welcome comrade! We're glad to have you! The more of us that participate in this space the better.

[–] 6kb_@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 days ago

welcome! excited to meet other relative newcomers or those who arent too well versed in political ideology/ml as of yet, makesme feel less alone. while i was able to deprogram from stuff about prc and dprk few years back, the stuff on this site about ukraine/nato war has been really illuminating, as well as the thread on iran.

Same, I haven't been commenting or contributing really, but this space has meant alot to me, especially the past couple of days

Glad you found your way here.

glad you're here!! it's nicer to be here than on astroturfed shitty subreddits that ban you if you have an actual worldview

My trip this summer goes through Basque Country and I can't wait to be back, such a based place

[–] pyromaiden@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Do tell! What's so based about it?

[–] pinguinu@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 days ago

They have a leftist tradition and it's looking like it's being revived (slowly but surely). I guess the people haven't been so atomized socially yet, I'd say it's a more hopeful place than some of the poorer parts that have been (more?) devastated by tourism.

[–] amemorablename@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 4 days ago

I don't think I've ever followed a war this closely before. It's kinda surreal, especially with the hits the empire is taking. I'm not sure it's the best thing for me though, how closely I'm following it; my abnormally anxious tendencies probably make it more nerve-wracking to follow. But also, it's like, this seems like a turning point of one kind or another, so maybe I'm right to be anxious. If Iran can manage to shatter the empire's hold in the region or even significantly weaken it, that's huge, but I still fear the opposite too. It sure seems like it is, in some ways, an existential fight for the independence of the region from western imperialism and the survival of the region against the nakedly barbaric onslaught of zionist colonialism. In that sense, I guess it is all the more reason to trust that Iran has a plan and is taking the stakes here very seriously. And to do what I can, however small, to further the fight of anti-imperialism.

[–] p0ntyp00l@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Well, my landleech decided to break off my rental agreement 7 fucking months early so his gf can move in and they can "have the place to themselves" and we share a kitchen which means I basically have no rights. Guess I'll just have to do what I can and hope I can find a place in this housing desert in 60 days or I'm fucked.

I don't even know what to say anymore man. You know what's hilarious? This fucker works at a homeless shelter even though he's part of the problem. What a joke. FUCK Ontario.

[–] 6kb_@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 days ago

fuck ontario and fuck your landleech

[–] CaptainRipcord@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Did he pay a cancellation fee or something? You can't just stop honoring a contract midway through it like that, generally. I'm not licensed in Canada, this isn't legal advice, but I'd recommend you look into that.

Anna’s Archive

This link does not work. I don’t know if we can replace it either.

[–] ninel1870@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Yes, only .vg, .pk & .gd work now. I think it was because of some attacks they were receiving.

Do you think some latin american compradors are like that because of the immense violence and suffering they have experienced?

Psychologically, wouldn't being at the brunt of constant violence induce sort of a nihilistic view in your mind towards politics, progress and a fear that "stepping out of line" would lead to getting whacked? I'm curious on what some comrades think.

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think that plays a part, but I also think it's because a lot of Latin American countries were founded as settler colonies and that mindset is still prevalent in some latinos

[–] rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago

Well, if we see it from a materialist perspective, the compradors loyalty lies with the group that offers them the most profit and that group will always be the imperialists.

That's why “stepping out of line” with the imperialist will always be detrimental for them. This explains why they always devolve into the most reactionary elements of the capitalist class and have no problems aiding the US funded death squads in Latin America.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 4 days ago (3 children)

So anyone else think trump will do a massive false flag on us soil and claim it was Iran in order to declare a state of emergency and stop the mid term elections.. and well all elections, or is that just me?

[–] pyromaiden@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 days ago

More likely they'll just rig it. They don't really need a big, expensive false flag when they can just fudge the numbers a smidge.

Oh most definitely. The only thing I think that could prevent that is if his advisors are such yes men that they tell him how amazing his poll numbers look only to get crushed in the midterms.

Not nearly enough politicians in this country have any balls to actually do something though. What are they going to do? Impeach him again in a giant waste of everyone’s time?

[–] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well NYC still has a WTC so

The United States has launched a military operation in Ecuador to combat drug trafficking

Source —> ([https://www.primicias.ec/seguridad/estados-unidos-ecuador-accion-militar-organizaciones-terroristas-comando-sur-117246/])

Trump really has some horrendous military advisors. You’re suffering massive war resource losses in West Asia, actively spending billions on war resources there and now boots on the ground in South America.

Really living up to Reagan’s war on drugs and Bush’s war on terror at the same time there, Donny

[–] kasama@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Oh, Donald. You and your uncontrollable and unwinnable wars. 🤦 Obviously it's not just you, it's also many people in your admin, but still.

[–] itsraining@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Based on your source apparently it's carried out in collaboration with the Ecuadorian government.

It is. Trump has been putting significant pressure on Latin American governments to assassinate and arrest cartel members. This is part of the reason why the Mexican government went after El Mencho.

The Trump admin has already put significant sanctions on Colombia for resisting.

[Last one for today] maybe it's just because of my maternal instincts (at least, I think I have those) but I don't understand people who can't cook. Was talking to this guy from one of my classes and he's like "oh I cant cook my mom makes everything for me" and "I'll just eat out when I move out."

I don't really know his economic background, but it just feels very...idk. very something. It does go back to that I said a little while ago about people being incurious.

[Note: the guys a professional rage baiter so he might be joking but I know there are others who genuinely can't cook]

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

You have to have a certain level of privilege to be able to afford not knowing how to cook. For most working class people, eating out all the time would be prohibitively expensive.

There are exceptions of course. Some people get free lunch at their work for example, but this is not common where i live. I hear it's very common in China though.

Of course the more "traditional" option is you just get married as soon as you move out of your parents' home and have your spouse do the cooking 😂

I think one of the problems i have when going to therapy and such is that depression usually has a "before." As in, you were happy at some point and now you're depressed. But, given I've been struggling with suicidal thoughts since like 13 or thereabouts, there isn't really a before for me.

Sometimes i don't really know if whatever I'm feeling (like when I figured out what degree i wanted) was a "normal" amount of happiness or an excised amount.

This also ties into my mood swings. Being happy is really scary for me. Because I'll get very, very happy and manic and I'll recognize that, and so i have to prepare for when I crash and become sad again [if i don't notice, crashing often compounds how bad i feel, like I'm sad over being sad, if that makes sense]

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Gonna post it here cuz it's not confirmed but apparently the accidental downing of 3 american F15 jets in Kuwait was done by a single Kuwait pilot lmao.

Never forget who we are fighting against. The imperialist system.

This is a global fight. We have to do for our loved ones and, if you are a parent, for your children. If we don't fight, tragedies like this will keep repeating.
