Why would anyone ever want to do this, oh why why why? What has the USA ever done to deserve something like this?

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 38 points 5 days ago

Oh they're calling it terrorism? Funny. They love to abuse that meaning.

It's an act of resistance or insurgency you fuckwits.

The US builds all their embassies like a fortress while others just have them in a normal building.

Will he invade Norway now?

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 61 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

It's a failed false flag operation. They meant to go after Denmark to obtain casus belli for Greenland.

^ the fact that I feel the need to clarify that this is satire says a lot about the current state of things

If you asked the president of the United States to point to Denmark on a map, you would be lucky if he hit the correct continent so... I'm going with "plausible."

Under a different Presidency I would have said, "Nor way", but I have lost my satire.

That explosion may have caused hundreds of dollars worth of damage.

The damage to the reputation, the prestige, and the gold-plated hubris of "the greatest nation on Earth ever and for all time" is what's at stake.

Fortunately, disaster capitalism will generate at least fourteen jobs, resulting in the fortification of this embassy — and all other embassies — at exorbitant cost. The US defense budget will far exceed the $1.5T requested for 2027.

Screw diplomacy, forget peace, pursue power.

At all costs. Until Empire falls.

Yeah, really hate the cruelty of my country.

For half the cost we could be dropping food, clothing, water, and medicine on the people we're bombing and it would do much more to further the cause of peace.

If you honestly think that, you need to maybe read a bit more or work on your short-term memory, because you have no idea what you're talking about. Hell, the last assassination attempt was just a few weeks ago.

To be honest, I think the USA's reputation around the world is already so poor right now that this doesn't make much difference.

Inside the USA, this isn't exactly high profile news (at least not at the moment) and I bet most people who are aware it happened would see this as a Norway thing rather than a US thing, and therefore would consider it more of a knock against that country than our own.

Not saying that is MY view, just that it would be a common take here on the inside if this actually were to become high profile news (which it doesn't seem like it is at the moment).

Yeah like... What the hell did we build our embassy out of that a great big explosion outside merely cracked some glass in the doors‽

There's not even pock marks on the frame!

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 5 days ago

My local 7-Eleven has more damage than that just from existing lol

[–] dan69@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago

Is this an appropriate meme format?

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 16 points 6 days ago

oh no

anyway

[–] AmazingSUPERG@thelemmy.club 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

How does this relate to the Nobel Prace Prize?

[–] quantumcrop@lemmy.today 15 points 5 days ago

Maria Machado being behind this attack would be the plot twist of the century.

[–] Doorbook@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Not sure why but to me this went quite super fast. Would be interesting to see who they blame.
