US Christian’s don’t give a fuck about the pope. Probably most aren’t Catholic anyway. And even some of US Catholics (likely in the south and midwest) don’t give a fuck what the pope says either.

[–] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 hours ago

The more entrenched conservative US christians would undoubtedly dismiss the pope's message, but those who are less affiliated might give it some thought.

Odin might listen, if he’s feeling generous. But even he can’t change fate. Plus he’s notoriously fickle. So since you’re going to die anyway; die on your feet, not your knees.

Which one ? Father Son or Spirit ? From the book at least one of them don't mind.

[–] trublu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 44 minutes ago

Yeah, it only takes like six chapters in that book to get to what is very nearly the most complete genocide possible. Has the Pope read his own holy book?

But not child molesters, apparently.

Because if it did there wouldn't be a little Catholic club.

I'll be happy to listen to this little pipsqueak moralize when he purges his church of child molesters and makes it mandatory to report and prosecute them. Until then, he's just another wealthy hypocrite.

"If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened." -- Psalm 66:18

"Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear." -- Isaiah 59:1-2

"If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination." -- Proverbs 28:9

"When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil. -- Isaiah 1:15-16

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” -- 1 Peter 3:12

Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered. -- Proverbs 21:13

"The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous." -- Proverbs 15:29

He's got a pretty solid basis for that claim.

If those Evangicals could read they'd be very upset.

The Evangelicals Creed

"I believe in God, the Father Almighty maker of heaven and Earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord. Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, never did or said anything important, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried..."

PSALM 140

1 Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; Preserve me from violent men, 2 Who plan evil things in their hearts; They continually gather together for war. 3 They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; The poison of asps is under their lips. Selah

4 Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from violent men, Who have purposed to make my steps stumble. 5 The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set traps for me. Selah

6 I said to the Lord: “You are my God; Hear the voice of my supplications, O Lord. 7 O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have [a]covered my head in the day of battle. 8 Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; Do not further his wicked scheme, Lest they be exalted. Selah

9 “As for the head of those who surround me, Let the evil of their lips cover them; 10 Let burning coals fall upon them; Let them be cast into the fire, Into deep pits, that they rise not up again. 11 Let not a slanderer be established in the earth; Let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him.”

12 I know that the Lord will maintain The cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor. 13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; The upright shall dwell in Your presence

Sounds like the opposite might be true, and it's OK to pray for the death of evil men.

This just shows that the bible isn't a coherent story. On many topics it is near impossible to say what position the bible takes, because it was writen by different men in different times with different agendas. Often, as in the present case, positions contradict each other.

Every denomination of christiantv is negotiating with the bible and chooses what to leave out, what to include and what to interpret how. This is driven by their specific dogmas, that are often post biblical.

This just shows that the bible isn’t a coherent story.

The Gospels don't even agree on basic details.

"One his disciples, the whom Jesus loved (AKA me), was reclining at his side."

-- The Gospel According to John

I don't think the evidence is clear that god rejects prayers more for sociopaths than everybody else.
But yes they are probably rejected equally.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 8 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Or God simply doesn't exist and we as a species need to deal with our own problems

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Yes by rejected equally I mean always rejected, exactly because god doesn't exist.
Some claim that the reason we can't see the effect, is because god doesn't reveal himself.
Funny thing is though, that a study on how prayer works for sick people showed they actually got worse!
So there isn't even a beneficial psychological effect, it's actually negative.
If god was working without revealing himself, there is no reason it should be worse.
So when people claim there is no evidence against the existence of god I disagree.
There is no evidence that a god exist, but there is actually evidence against the existence of the Judaic god.
Also the complete lack of evidence for the existence of a god, is evidence that the existence of a god is highly unlikely.

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Evidence based religion 😂. Good one.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 47 minutes ago

I guess that's what we call atheism.
But there has been real studies on the efficacy of prayer, and when it turned out to be negative! Such studies suddenly stopped.

[–] hcf@sh.itjust.works 5 points 7 hours ago

Maybe, but I think sociopaths have a real "ok, well fuck you, too, then. I'll do/get it myself!" mentality when it comes to God.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 20 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

In the old testament, there were occasions where god supported one side in a war.

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 24 points 7 hours ago

God supports atrocities as long as they're perpetrated by followers, rather than against them.

[–] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 8 points 7 hours ago

Well ig someone's trying to fix Christianity's image.

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 hours ago

He needs to get back to important things like determining what genital conformation people have!

Trying to stop wars is so, like, irrelevant to the worship of the Prince of Peace.

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 6 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

God rejects all prayers because they don’t exist.

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 hours ago

God seems to grant the prayers of pedophiles though, so I guess it cancels out.
