If he doesn't open it within a couple of months at most, the bulk of oil is going to start being traded in yuan (it's already starting to happen) the gulf states are going to start liquidating their U.S. debt and the investments they've made across the global economy. The problem could spiral out of control really fast. The guy's a total idiot, but I assume they've explained it to him with little cartoons or something and he's finally understood that this time he can't just walk away and claim he won

You seem to expect that those around him understand the situation any better. This term, he purged anybody who knows shit about anything. Hell, he put a fucking Fox News host in charge of the military.

The sooner they stop fake negotiations and leave, the better for the world. Reopening straights is extremely easy for peaceful nations. Cheaper than insurance. Cheaper than not getting/selling oil and other goods.

Leavitt signaled that Trump may achieve those objectives by mid-April. “The Pentagon has always stated four to six weeks as an estimated timeline for Operation Epic Fury,” Leavitt said in the White House briefing room. "We're on day 30 today—you do the math."

My math says it's taking y’all a lot longer than you fooled yourselves into thinking.

He is going to 180 on this later today or tomorrow. He may have thought he'd get an easy win and leave like in Venezuela. Now that it's clear that won't happen, he thinks he can declare that he doesn't need a deal after all and leave.

This is not a real estate deal and he can't just leave. There are too many powerful people in the world who will find this outcome unacceptable. He is stuck and we are stuck there with him.

"but the core objectives of the operation have been clearly defined for the American people by the Commander in Chief,” Leavitt said."

What objectives!?

Letting Iran toll the ships passing through the strait.

Motherfucker loves tariffs so much he's helping Iran to implement their own.

Somehow whatever he can't do, or doesn't benefit him, magically doesn't matter! It's like a superpower!

America is good at not admitting they lost a war. Just ask any war since ww2.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (5 children)

Ending any war isn't their goal. We are the single largest arms manufacturer and seller on the planet. Our economy is war. This whole machine supports our pillaging and our governments priority is spending tax dollars for weapons from their clubs companies, then they turn around to the construction side of the club and give their friends contracts to repair everything they destroyed. Wait 20 years and rinse and repeat.

Mass murder for profit is our country's legacy.

"Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately 'Open for Business,' we will conclude our lovely 'stay' in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island," Trump wrote in a social media post.

Hell of a reaction to something that is not vital.

Poker player: better hand not vital to stop playing game.

Can they declare him not mentally competent or something and then this emo douche with eyeliner can try to fix this together with the alcoholic?

Jus an idea...

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

They can, but the Republicans are going to Weekend at Bernie's him until the 2028 election. He is their king and the only way a king is replaced is after their death. Be it natural or otherwise.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

this is what gets me. He has to go but so do the republicans. Its been a slide for them for a long time but this should be the line that causeses all citizens to not vote for the party. Im not telling conservative folks to not be conservative but they need to get together and get back to traditional conservative principles like pay as you go and low deficits (no matter if they are the ones in power or not) and make a new party. It needs to be sincere about its ideals and not about just being in power to be in power.

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

My rationalization for why they are doing that is that vance has a better chance at holding the reigns after 47 croaks (incumbant advantage), so its important to the GOP to make sure he makes it to the 50%+1 day line of his term so that vance can run for 2 full terms of his own plus the rest of 47s term. The issue is that vance is not the cult of personality and 47 kicking the bucket will set off an internal power squabble that may end up spoiling their ticket while their hemmoraging support because 47 and his ilk are a cavalcade of fuck-ups.

The problem is that Trump's supporters are literally a cult. The GOP are the ones with the power to unseat Trump, and the GOP know that their voters will tear them apart if they unseat Trump. Hence this continuing clown show of least resistence by the GOP.

An alternative is Trump stepping down voluntarily. But in best narcissist style, Trump believes he is the best man for the job, any job. "Only I can fix it". And the pathological lack of self insight only gets worse as Trump mentally declines.

Watch the markets.

[–] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I mean, technically, if you just stop attacking the country you started a war with, that might well end the war.

[–] Delta_V@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

The other side also gets to vote for when the war is over.

As the wars in Ukraine and Iran have shown, its impossible to stop 100% of drone attacks and drone manufacturing.

Cargo ship insurance companies will have a vote too regarding when the Strait of Hormuz is "open".

Operation taco teusday is a great success. We all agree. Congrats everyone. Wheres that George Bush "Mission Accomplished!" banner? Now that we've won lets get our fearsome ICE agents to cover our military's retreat. *cough I mean victorious tactical redeployment back to the homeland of freedom.

ICE already have a full set of tactical military gear anyway, and punisher patches and everything. They just need some rubber rafts and a push into the strait to finish the Iranians off. They did so well at the airports, its time to unleash their epic fury. No rules of engagement!

[–] random_character_a@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Are we getting an another historic "👍Mission accomplished👍" before midterms?

Does US have a carrier big enough for Trumps ego and fat ass, or do they need to rename one and pain it "tacky fake gold".
