That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Don't worry, they'll be back next election cycle. That's when they pretend to care so much and fight. All the candidates that genuinely care, on both sides, get shut down by the big dogs before they ever make it to the public eye.

[–] Kyle@lemdro.id 1 points 10 hours ago

They're all on the same side. There's no reason for fake opposition at the moment because we're just ignoring the law, so it's been toned down.

My guess is that you really just aren't paying attention. Possibly because right-wing oligarchs keep buying traditional news rooms and turning them into weak propaganda factories.

Without control of even a single chamber of Congress the ~~Democrats~~ American Left has managed to:

  1. Expand their state court lead in Wisconsin
  2. Stop a bevy of abuse and chicainery by going to court.
  3. Pickup control of Virginia, and get right to making that state better
  4. Dominate in special elections to such an extent that a "blue wave" seems entirely achievable
  5. Pick an actual Socialist for NYC mayor instead of a cop or sex pest, who is doing a great job by any metric
  6. In Congress shut down the entire government and get the most out of any such shutdown in our nation's history
  7. Shutdown DHS to the point that the right caved to their demand to segregate ICE and non-ICE parts of the agency

Democrats and the rest of the left are fighting. But because the basic rules of American federalism and rule of law are still mostly being followed, that fighting is done by traditional peaceful channels rather than through violence.

They're more afraid of leftists than they are of MAGA. They more or less threw the 2024 election on purpose rather than move an inch to the left, and then after losing, they figured they can just lie low and blame all the destruction on the Republicans, claiming that they were completely powerless.

So if a strong DEM came out with Fire and Brimstone even locally and took a smart ass approach but could quote off facts and figures the top of his head. And pretty much showed no respect to the right only to ridicule them? On ignorance or biggotry were just like fuck it and did not play by the so called "rules" the republicans did. They should be able to Trample the shit out of any Republican? Oh and hit them on small shit like piracy and copyright infringement and why they are fixing to come up with a comeback the train left that station and is now ten miles down the road?

[–] Battle_Masker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 22 hours ago

they had that twice, and censured one of em. They tried to stop the other one but the people of New York did the right thing

The thing about that is the main Democrat establishment hates that type of candidate and tolerates Republicans by comparison, so in such a race, the Democrat party actively sabotages the leftist candidates. That's why Bernie runs as an independent - the Democrat party would not support him and actively sabotaged his attempt to run for president in 2016. The Democrat party also attempted to sabotage Mamdani's run for mayor of NYC, but they were unable to stop him from winning anyways, despite their opposition. So, maybe the dam is starting to crack and we will see more cases like that. The party will fight it tooth and nail the whole way, though. They would much rather have Republicans in power than leftists.

Were you not watching the past 20 years? If not, you missed the warnings. Pelosi gave an 8 hour filibuster speech just in 2018. Should they have been grabbing guns and throwing fists? The aggressor and instigator has always been the right-wing. If you don't see it, you tuned in too late or bought into their propaganda. Or, like the left, you believe the anti-american propaganda that positions the Dems as controlled opposition.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What do you think they should be doing?

"Fighting" is not an answer.

What specific actions are you expecting from them?

[–] danciestlobster@lemmy.zip 1 points 16 hours ago

I'll start. At the very least they should quit voting to fund the genocide and increase ICE funding. I understand these measures are largely performative and the Republicans would get what they want anyway, but they could at least act like they are displeased with their votes.

[–] Patnou@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

You want a full list just off the top of my head?

[–] neatchee@piefed.social 18 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

Yes. Please list things that a sitting federal politician can do when both chambers of Congress and the presidency are in opposition party control, which are not purely performative nonsense

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

They’re totally powerless. All they can do is write letters or make speeches.

Except Fetterman, he votes with the republicans.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Except Fetterman, he votes with the republicans.

If the alternative wasn't Dr. Oz, I'd regret that vote.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

I had a fucking bumper sticker on my car, how do you think I feel?

I’m never supporting another politician ever again.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 23 hours ago

Controlled opposition. 2 parties, one master. Not all, but enough establishment Dems.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 0 points 20 hours ago

Nothing has substantially changed among their party.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net -5 points 22 hours ago

They lost on purpose because their corporate donors told them to. It's called jobbing. And you fell for the act.
