I've had a discussion with my parents, who are pretty left leaning, but still vote for a bourgeois party, and they told me that they are seeing a certain push to the left in said party. Now, they could be wrong, but this got me thinking of what's to come.

It could be possible that, as China cements itself as the greatest country in the world (in terms of military, economy, international relations, R&D etc.), their ideology will have an influence on not just the world proletariat, but also on the world petit-bourgeoisie and even bourgeoisie, following that the ruling ideology always ends up being that of the ruling class. As a result, a literal red wave might be coming.

It could just be rambling, but this does put me in a good mood.

I worry that it'll just be "fine we can trade with china" without anything else

[–] amemorablename@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 months ago

I don't doubt the bourgeoisie will cling to their power as much as they can, but if China does cement itself as the other person talked about, a lot of people are going to be pushed into a choice between "do some reforms or crush yourself trying to resist the new world order". Not in an instantaneous, "hegemon making them do it" kind of way, but insofar as them having to contend with the rising popularity of China, rising literacy about its policies and what it's like, trade that increasingly gives them a taste of what China is capable of, and so on. And as the empire declines more, it will not only increase the contradictions in the imperial core and in imperialized nations, it will also weaken the military might the empire has to throw around for crushing popular movements.

As we have seen with Iran, some of this fight will be on the battlefield because the empire is not exactly fond of backing down willingly. But we are also seeing with Iran that the empire's weapons and tools can be broken and resisted. There's a long road ahead still, but there's hope to be had in it and opportunities to seize on for building liberation. If you're worried people won't go far enough, educate and push for more. Help them see the benefits.

Yeah, that might be the best scenario if no revolutions happen in America, because liberals are still conservative from a leftist perspective and might be willing to peddle fascist narratives if it can uphold neoliberalism.

Also heartwarming news, a good 5-10% of comments [from my count, not an actual survey] on Jacob Gellers video about 1984 are "Orwell sucked actually"

Edit: There was one bit that spoke to me. The forward discussed at about 38 minutes into the video, about Orwell being afraid he'll lose his political anger and turn into another apologist for "things as they are" is something ive felt a lot. Not because any logical conclusion or epiphany, but just because it's happened to so many others. Even as i discuss the reasons why Abbie Hoffman or Angela Davis and such lose their political fire, i still find myself afraid that I'll succumb to it too.

Apparently there was a shooting outside the white house minutes ago.

Don't know what happened exactly but I feel like this indicates something.

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

nothing happened really but i like that they won't feel safe never again.

[–] 6kb_@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 months ago

you know maybe it's just that i don't keep up with it anymore but every time this happens i'm like oh great some more fake shit for them to never shut up about. now i want to see if this actually was a legitimate assassin. #disavvaow

Im thinking of joning a party here in italy but doing reasearch makes stuff so confusing, apparently there's like 10 communist or leftwing parties here and i when i try to find out about them i keep finding leftist infighting and mudslinging, it's been very troubling, ive also got the problem that i dont live near anywhere near a building of any of them

[–] LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Are they all Maoist parties? The infighting over small issues is definitely a pattern from what little I have read on a few Maoist movements in other countries (I am joking about them being Maoist parties, because I doubt Italy has many Maoists).

[–] Everyn@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I don't know about maoist parties in italy but i know that a lot of italian leftists are trotskyists, unfortunately they're also the major marxist publishers so i got some of my books from them; italy has a massive compatible left problem to the point that ordinary people are more marxist than them/hj

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Start by eliminating any parties that support the war on Iran and then any with signs of homophobia or trasnsphobia, any that are Pro-rojave and then the pro ukraine ones. I'd be surprised if you have nay options left after that.

[–] LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 months ago (3 children)

What is the political situation in Italy? I only know that there is a far-right candidate or something, but I know very little about Italian politics in general (because I hardly know much about anything in modern Italy).

A good litmus test would be asking about Domenico Losurdo.

[–] AnarchoBolshevik@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I have a feeling that this topic is not going to receive many upvotes. The slice-of-life tone may be a nice break from the other content but it is too plain to impress anybody. I was scrambling to find something intriguing to share today and that was the best that I could find. I think that it would have been better off as bonus material in another topic. Oh well.

Honestly for some reason I've been watching communist creators less and less. I don't want to, but for some reason I just haven't watched Hakim, Idzihar, etc. In a minute. It's not like I don't want to engage with theory so...idk.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Do you watch Adnan Husain, Justin Podur or The East is a Podcast? They are less entertainment and more academic.

[–] Marat@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 4 months ago (2 children)

No, but I'll check them out now

I'm glad there's a lot communist content on YouTube which I feel can get marxist thought a lot of visibility, but for me the YouTube UI feels like it's sometimes constantly bombarding me to click on things or scroll to the comments and it's a bit distracting sometimes... I definitely prefer the far more focused experience of reading theory instead

but there are also a lot of realllly good first-hand video sources on YouTube, not necessarily breadtube, that can be super fun to watch. one that comes to mind is "An African-American's Journal Inside North Korea (1994)", even though not all of the thoughts voiced in it are explicitly marxist. that one made a pretty big impression on me when I watched it for the first time :D

Ive gotten an idea recently related to central planning, with modern computers we could use A.I. (not generative) that is directly handled by workers that helps plan the economy and the allocation of labour, maybe im too crazy tho

I just did the [rough] math that the current defense budget of the US is equivalent to giving every person in the US $2400 directly into their bank account a year [about $200 a month]. I know it's no NYC appartment but still 😒

Edit: my apologies, it'd actually be billions of dollars...cheaper

A really weird thing about the US is that it is pretty much mandated to have your dogs neutered.
