Famous where? I bet you don't know famous people that are only famous in their country.
Edit: tell me who Lola Flores, Camarón de la Isla or Robe Iniesta are.
Tig Notaro used to have a show where celebrities would come on, she would interview them, and at the end she had to guess who they were. So, yes, even famous people who live in LA don't necessarily know who other famous people are.
I couldn't pull those 2 out of a line up.

Absolutely, and there no shame in that whatsoever, our world is currently full of people who are famous for being famous, a singer/rapper for every citizen, everyone is a dj, or an influencer, even politicians and faceless droops, you know who you know and the rest are just background noise

I know who The Weeknd is (and how to spell his name — it always irks me that it's missing a letter, but it makes his name more memorable, because it makes one think about how it's different). I'm not familiar with his music.
There are people in the world who don't know who a lot of famous people are. Consider someone in Europe who knows quite a bit about association football (called soccer in the US, but they just call it football). In the US, you might know David Beckham was a soccer (sorry, football) player. You might even know what team (sorry, squad) he was on, but you might not know too many more. Someone in Europe might be able to name ten footballers off the top of their head, maybe tell you what position they play and who they play for.
American music and movies are pretty much known everywhere, but it's also kind of regional. I've moved around a lot, and I've met people who swear up and down they never heard of bands I grew up listening to. They're objectively famous, they sold many millions of albums, they were on MTV, but it's possible to have just missed them. Same with movies and games.
I only know who The Weeknd is because Cœur de Pirate did a cover of his song "Wicked Games". It's fucking hilarious to hear a French Canadian woman play the piano while singing "Let me see that ass, look at all this cash". I've never heard the original version, and I don't plan to.

I have no idea, but I do know it's spelled The Weeknd, for some reason. That's pretty much all I know, though.
Same reason it's called "Blu-Ray" and not "Blue-Ray". It's much harder to trademark a normal word.
But it also has the effect that I tend to read it as 'the weakened'.

At some point in your life, you didn't know who any famous people were.
Very much possible. I have seen the names you mention but I've got no idea what either are famous for.
If I had to guess I'd say porn star and binge drinking.
I have heard of The Weekend. I have no idea who they are, what they're famous for, what they look like, if they're a person or a group, or anything about them. I also legitimately have no idea if you're meant to pronounce the 'e' in Grande, people have told me, I just don't care enough to remember.
I'm sure my parents don't know who either of them are.
I know Ariana Grande and The Weekend are singers.
But if you printed out 9 pictures of a vaguely hispanic woman singer, and 1 picture of her, I would have a 1 in 10 chance I point her out.

And I'm sure you could name 20 names, 10 of them famous people, 10 are random names from the phone book. I would have zero confidence in knowing rather than guessing, who the famous people are.
This comment is outrageously funny to me. Because Ariana grande is not Hispanic in the slightest. Like, she's so white she would stand out in the middle of a group of even vaguely Hispanic women like a sore thumb. But it just adds to the comedy.
This thread is the first time I became aware that there exists a person called The Weekend.
Famous people are like fashion trends and pass like the seasons, and are about as meaningful. Eventually you give up caring about trying to keep up.
They're all narcissists, anyway.
