165Hz was already past the point of diminishing returns on OLED. Even higher refresh rates mean more heat and shorter battery life for gains nobody can actually see. When will OEMs realize nobody asked for this?
I was quite excited back in the day when i had my first 120hz phone. It ran on 60 the whole time because it wasn't worth the extra battery drain. On my pc monitor i can tell, on my phone i did not care at all. I sometimes went into the settings because i thought it ran on 120
To each their own but I find it equally noticeable on my phone because it did make any drag-based infractions feel a lot smoother. 165 does feel like a stretch though.
165Hz on a phone already felt like spec-sheet theater rather than something you actually notice. If OnePlus pushes higher on the OnePlus 16, the difference from 120Hz becomes essentially imperceptible while the battery cost stays real. Who is actually asking for refresh rates that blur the line between phone and gaming monitor?
Everything above 90 is irrelevant to me.
Here I am, thinking that 60Hz is a bit overkill. Even for games.
Is high refresh rate even desirable an a phone? On a gaming handheld it would be great, if it has the battery to drive it for a while, on a smartphone it just seems like a detriment.
My phone has 120hz but I never use it, because battery life is more important. And most mobile games don't benefit from increased motion clarity anyway.
Smooth motion is great for scrolling but, yeah, 240hz won't be worth the battery cost.
Yes, it's a gimmick.
