But that picture is profoundly incomplete. Long before their rediscovery in the 19th century, the Hittites ruled one of the great powers of the Bronze Age, rivaling Egypt, reshaping Syria, and even sacking Babylon. This survey traces the rise, expansion, and internal struggles of the Hittite kingdom, drawing on both archaeological and textual evidence, while also addressing the points where modern scholarship remains divided.
