It's a known virus, so seems like a nothingburger to me (except a handful of people dying, that's of course horrible).
There are plenty of known viruses that we don't worry about simply because we've been lucky enough to keep them contained in very localized areas. But an epidemiologist could rattle off a whole series of viruses that they would say, "if this ever gets out and blows up, we are fucked."
It wasn't the Spanish Flu even at its worst (roughly a third the mortality rate with a much faster and farther reach absent any properly quarantining).

You sure you're not talking about regular hantavirus? Most strains can't transmit from person to person; they require vectors such as mice and other rodents. But the variant people are worried about is capable of spreading directly from person to person. Cruise ships and plains may make it easy to transmit viruses that require close personal contact. But they're not exactly known for their rodent infestations.

Based on early investigations by health officials in May 2026, passengers on the cruise ship likely contracted hantavirus (specifically the Andes virus) through an initial, pre-boarding exposure to rodent droppings in South America
The ship itself is not seeing any cases between passengers, at least as far as I've seen in reports
Also, no one on the flights has confirmed Hantavirus either. The Flight Attendant is still an unknown but in testing.

Mine aren't saying anything about it at all.
Every time somebody complains about YouTube it's always because they don't actually have any subscriptions and they're just looking at the front page.
The front page of YouTube is indeed rubbish, no one should be looking at that.

I barely heard anything about it, except for the fact that it has something to do with rodents. Does anyone know if that includes domesticated rodents (specifically in Central Europe) and whether the virus dies when frozen? Cause I have plenty of contact with frozen rats, mice, african soft fur rats and rabbits atm.
Viruses usually survive quite fine when frozen. Viruses aren't really alive so in order to "kill" them you're looking for something that will destroy their DNA.
You want something like high heat, UV, or bleach. Also just stuff like wearing face coverings and gloves should be enough, after all I am assuming you're not planning to eat them.
Oh is there a new world ending virus? Perhaps trump will suggest injecting bleach again, you never know, it could be a good thing.
But seriously, why weren't they properly quarantined? We learned nothing from the previous case.
Long incubation period + passengers ending their cruises in different places. Once they figured out it was spreading on the ship it was quarantined but by then several people had already left.
afaik, some people got off the cruise before they realised there was an outbreak - and it's those who are currently the issue
