House candidate Maureen Galindo pledges to send ‘American zionists’ to internment camp

Controversy-tarred congressional candidate Maureen Galindo this week pledged to transform a site south of San Antonio now used by the Trump administration to detain migrants into an internment camp for “American Zionists.”

“She’ll turn Karnes ICE Detention Center into a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers for human trafficking,” Galindo wrote in an Instagram post over the weekend, referring to herself in the third person. “It will also be a castration processing center for pedophiles, which will probably be most of the Zionists.”

Galindo’s latest set of inflammatory remarks comes as the Democratic hopeful for Texas’ newly redrawn 35th Congressional District continues to draw national attention for remarks critics have called antisemitic and untethered from reality. The controversy is snowballing as she heads into the May 26 Democratic primary runoff.

Over the past week, Galindo has accused her runoff opponent — former Bexar County Public Information Officer Johnny Garcia — of participating in a human trafficking conspiracy orchestrated by billionaire zionist Jews. She also pledged during a Texas Public Radio interview to put Garcia on trial for treason.

Beyond her attacks on Garcia, Galindo has continued to promote the narrative that a cabal of Jewish zionists controls Hollywood, the media and even local politicians.

Even so, in comments to the Current and other media outlets, Galindo maintained she only has an issue with zionists, or those advocating for the existence of a Jewish state in their ancestral homeland, rather than Jews in general.

“I think it’s actually the zionists who are putting Jewish people at the most risk,” Galindo told the Current last week.

My big issue is the term "Jewish zionists", completely ignoring that a huge proportion of the zionists -- including those in israel -- are Christians.

It's billionaires, zionists, capitalists.

There are a lot of anti-zionists jews, that is not the common denominator, it is nationalism and money.

Did she say that or did the article add the Jewish part

Zionism is incompatible with the Faith

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 23 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Most of the things evangelicals do is incompatible with the faith.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 days ago

Well yeah they're a death cult. They literally think their mission on earth is to bring about end times by any means necessary.

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 15 points 4 days ago

It is also incompatible with the Jewish faith. Look at what those orthodox jews in New York are saying. We are a disaspora and a big part of the Jewish identity is being an exiled people.

We do not have a divine right to any land.

That's Catholicism, one sect among many in Christianity. The above poster is really referring to Apocalyptic Christians, those who believe they're living in the End Times prophesied in the Revelation. They support Israel because they believe it's a necessary step in ushering in the end of the world. They think they're following God's plan. They seem to have missed the part of that book where all the Antichrist's supporters are slaughtered wholesale in the final battle and irrevocably damned.

I believe there are some people like that, but I think the vast vast majority of "christians" in support of zionism do it for reasons completely disconnected from their faith. I think it has more to do with toeing the conservative party line at best, and just white supremacy at worst.

[–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

One might suggest that the reason I gave is the belief they espouse because it validates and enables their conservative, bigoted beliefs.

blasphemy of war

I know Catholics ignore the old testament, but even the POPE? God LOVES genocide.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

it has been fulfilled by our Lord.

Back then, sin had a price because it had not yet been paid

now, it has been paid for by our Lord, Jesus Christ.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Sin has a price for who?

[–] emeralddawn45@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"remember when we brutally tortured that guy who tried spreading Buddhist ideals and telling people to love each other? Well since we tortured and killed him for his beliefs, all sin is gone, actually."

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 1 points 2 days ago

read the bible

[–] zoloftt@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's not progressive to be the same as the right wing nut jobs.

You can be anti-zionist without also supporting camps at all...

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

yeah its like the side im on is the one with human rights and due process and social safety nets. not punishing mine enemies

[–] OccamsRazer@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

That's what the paradox of intolerance is for; justifying violence while maintaining the moral high ground.

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Everyone has lost their damn minds.

Just people saying insane things for attention. And we're giving it to them

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah no.

Some random idiot on the Internet saying this is whatever

Any politician, left or right, saying this is fucking dangerous. I don't care which side you're on, don't.

Anyone supporting this, try applying the rule where whatever happens, should happen to you. Are you okay with that? Are you okay with being on a detention center? Of detention centers like that are not okay for you, they should also be not okay for your neighbor who is on the other far end spectrum of your political agenda.

I get wanting to murder racist assholes but if you really really want that, what you really actually want is a civil war where both sides would lose.

What you want is a functional democracy where schools teach real history and give students real knowledge. Over time, that will root out the dumbass hatred. These stupid comments from politicians will just widen the gap and sow more hatred.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

Oh good, BlueMaga are already trying to come up for justifications as to why nobody will be punished after the Trump regime ends. It's the the fucking Obama era all over again: "sure they were fascists who committed crimes against humanity, but it would be wrong of us to punish them!"

[–] SarahValentine@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (27 children)

If it's wrong for them to do it to us, it's wrong for us to do it to them. This is How Not To Be A Hypocrite: 1st grade edition.

[–] AuroraZzz@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Yea. I'm gonna be on this side of the argument. We need more insane liberals putting the Nazis into camps for crazy reasons. Just repeating the things that they say, but with them as the out group instead

They are literally traitors to our nation, working for Israel above America. Two hots and a cot in a TX internment camp is far too kind for these ghouls.

I see that we can reach across the aisle to commit to calling our opponents pedophiles.

[–] Historical_General@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago

Well one side are pedophiles calling the other side pedophiles, it would be weird not calling those pedophiles pedophiles.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

This feels kind of like the "I'm not touching you" of antisemitism. Like as much as American zionists have poisoned the well by conflating antizionism with antisemitism, you have to kind of side-eye just replacing standard fare antisemitic tropes with "Jewish zionists". You can say it's not about Jewishness, but it's starting to ring pretty hollow when it just seems like a find and replace.

Not to mention that, even taking this at face value, most zionists are just people who have been propagandized for decades and haven't thought enough about important issues to break away from it, not people who are buying Palestinian homes or crowdfunding Israeli terrorism. A lot of people are wrong about pretty serious moral issues, that doesn't mean that repurposing concentration camps is now a cool idea.

This person just seems like blue MTG.
