Please just learn to enjoy things

I never loved the show, so I never grew to hate it. I mostly enjoyed it while it aired including this season.

I thought it was good and I liked it. I don’t know why it’s getting all this hate.

[–] ravenpunk@piefed.social 8 points 1 week ago

Okay, good to hear that. I am traveling for a few months and want to watch the new season on my home theater setup, but I can't avoid all the drama, which is so bad.

It's refreshing to see another opinion!

I think they landed the plane but we took some confusing and ultimately pointless detours.

Season 3 felt like we were at the series finale, but then we decided to keep going. Especially if you watched Gen V. We spent a LONG time building up the virus, which does have a payoff with Butcher at the end, but it just felt pointless.

I think you could re-edit season 4 & 5 down to just a few episodes and not lose any story.

That all being said, I agree I don't get the level of hate. Everyone got a "good" ending and more or less what I've been looking forward to for many seasons.

The characters getting a “good ending” is irrelevant if it’s complete crap all the way there. It’s about the journey and the payoff because they’re not real people. They don’t go off to live after the show.

yeah. the finale didn’t have the oomph i was expecting but it wasn’t bad like many finales are. decent way to wrap up the series.

Because it was terrible. It felt rushed yet was full of filler episodes and storylines, and pretty much every storyline from the last 4 seasons went nowhere and was irrelevant. It threw Gen V in the trash and basically pretended it didn’t happen.

The entire season just seemed to be “let’s make fun of trump and Christian’s and republicans, it will be amazing and everyone will love it! Oh and we’ll throw Elon in at the end too! We are so hilarious!” and in doing so just did a game of thrones - completely destroyed the whole show.

The final battle was just complete horse shit. An invulnerable “god” who they’ve been fearing will destroy the whole world gets his arse have to him by butcher and a kid? He can’t even fly away fast enough to escape? What was even the point of the V1?!

Not to mention the false advertising with pictures of homelander in low orbit with nukes going off everywhere, and butcher standing in front of a collapsed Vought tower.

The starlighters? Eh forget about them. Just make them help a few randoms across to Canada where homelander definitely couldn’t get them…..

Marie being the most powerfully supe and being made out to be the one to stop homelander? Forget that, she can just sit in a truck.

The deep can swim to the bottom of the deepest point on earth just fine, can swim insanely fast, but looks like a 5 year old trying to swim out away from the sharks? And an octopus can kill him?

Everything about it was just terrible. I won’t be watching the spinoffs.

I thought it was fine, better than 4

That is how I feel about the majority of the franchise.

The Boys

  • The first season was great.
  • The second season was SSDD that was carried by Stormstrike.
  • The third season was just SSDD with no new character to save it.
  • I made it to the toilet scene in the Supe Orgy house in the fourth season and noped out.
  • I won’t bother watching the fifth season.

I checked out GenV out of boredom and the first season was entertaining. I was a lot of the same old, same old, but it was entertaining. I did maybe three episodes of S2 before I dumped it.

In short the majority of the franchise has felt like watching a comedian bomb their set.

The rule is first time you use an acronym you say the whole thing, e.g. same shit different day (ssdd) then you can use it.

Wtf, that's bs.

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I dont know what SSDD is but the show has always looked boring to me. The production ws fine for season one as a counter to the overproduced marvels but as it went on it just looked so flat and boring, even the real world doesnt look like that.

Gen V kind of the same deal, interesting characters but somehow boring show. Season 2 episode one was the end for me.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

SSDD = Same Shit Different Day

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Oh yeah then definitely

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah I also got bored immediately after season 1. Which is par for the course with Kripke, the guy can't finish series.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

I fell off watching as it became clear all that was left was shock humor from random kinks being on screen. Also it's not the fault of the show, but the parody got way to close to reality at times.

[–] lath@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Reality doesn't conform to self-inflated expectations, hence the heartbreak.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Correct, reality is that the show was boring after season 1 — just like the rest of the garbage Kripke puts out.

It felt like the showrunners were excited to be moving on for that sweet star wars money.

It joins lost and game of thrones in the great list of shit I will never watch again.
