Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg appears so determined to win the AI race that he is willing to sacrifice some employee privacy to make it happen.

What's crazy is that he could just have asked for volunteers and add a pay raise alongside agreement in participating in that crap and I'm sure half the company would be doing it willingly. Instead he just pissed off everyone and will likely get data poisoning from maliciously compliant employees, and lose highly skilled employees.

They're cannibalizing themselves. That's the only way you can describe it. An organization that's hollowing itself out with management aware it won't last (or delusional enough to believe reality will never catch up with them).

There's a reason we abandoned monarchy. Zuck is effectively the king of meta. Literally. The founding corporate structure is designed so he literally can never be fired. And if you give anyone absolute unaccountable power, it's only a matter of time until they drive things right off a cliff.

Google. You can easily avoid Meta. You don't have to de-metify phones, you don't have to use Meta's browser. It's really hard (and getting harder) to avoid Google. Meta is annoying, Google is cancer.
Disagree. You can easily degooglify for the most part. Except android. But you won't get your friends and family to contact you via anything other than Whatsapp (except in america).
And teens without Instagram just don't exist socially. Maybe with TikTok now. But not like TikTok is any better.
You're right, I forgot about the cancer WhatsApp is. Degoogling phones is not that easy but it's definitely doable for someone with basic technical skills. Avoiding WhatsApp is basically impossible.
Meta provides zero value to the world anymore. It would be a net positive to be rid of it. Maybe I could go back to using Craigslist again instead of having to use Facebook to sell my used shit….

The idea is a less atrocious if you don’t have to worry about any of your needs being met. But even then, there’s a huge difference between “I recorded myself doing X” and “we’re going to watch everything you say or do and hopefully put you out of a job with it”.
