I wonder if the people at X ever read their own announcements.

Literally explaining how they sold out and enshittified the "blue checkmark".

This also seem like yet another step towards mandatory IDverification on social media! (only to protect them kids & democratize the platforms of course ๐Ÿ˜‰)

For clarity, that is not an EU demand to implement ID-Verification, but rather X using it as an excuse to do so.

Likely due to American digital ID laws, they made this announcement. It wasn't Europe necessarily, as they don't even have digital ID yet.

Good thing I have no intention (nor my producer) to get Twitter, and this is kinda why.

Mastodon said they don't have the tech to do it. Since it's a protocol, they can't do digital ID, nor can the rest of ActivityPub.
