My favorite port of Doom was the wacky PSDoom where it spawned enemies that were your processes and you could renice or kill the processes by hurting or killing them.

The pregnancy test is wild

[–] TheBrideWoreCrimson@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

Wikipedia says it also ran/ runs on Atari Jaguar, Risc PC and whatever a "Tapwave Zodiac" is.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Tapwave Zodiac was a gaming focused PDA. Kind of the Steam Deck of its time, except almost no one bought it. I watched most of the old Doctor Who on one.

Fun fact, Stargate Atlantis used them as sci-fi scanner props.

[–] blindbunny@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 hours ago

Should have thrown a john deere tractor in there too.

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 hour ago

Some grad students made an e coli based display and ran doom on it https://www.popsci.com/science/doom-e-coli-cells/

Came here for this. Doom on a pregnancy test is by far the most impressive!

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 10 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Well mostly the others used whatever chip is on the device, that one only used the display sadly

[–] ApertureUA@lemmy.today 3 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

It actually used nothing except the case. Source: PCmag

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Wait, I knew about the potato, buy I didn't know you can play doom on doom itself! How does that work?

[–] ApertureUA@lemmy.today 7 points 2 hours ago

Some version(s?) of Doom have an in-game arcade cabinet with Doom IIRC

[–] umbraroze@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 hours ago

I don't think Philips makes televisions or other consumer electronics any more, so I assume it's been ported on smart light bulbs or medical equipment.

Doom in Doom, lol. And there's also Minecraft in Minecraft. And Doom runs in Minecraft. Is there a Doom in Doom that runs in Minecraft in Minecraft?

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 16 points 6 hours ago

Be the change that you want to see in the world... :-P

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 92 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

My coffee maker isn’t listed, this is bullshit.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 2 points 5 hours ago

Doom on a toaster would have a terrible frame rate.

[–] Echo5@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Now how do I get it onto classified laptops 🤔

[–] kayzeekayzee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Downloading is one issue, but how do I install it on the potato?

[–] HerrHelmus@lemmy.world 26 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Wait, it runs on Nextcloud? I need to look into that...

Of course it does.

[–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 10 points 7 hours ago

the reason i made the meme was bc i was scrolling through nextcloud apps to add and i found that fucking doom exists

[–] eodur@piefed.social 3 points 6 hours ago

I didn't realize there was a Doom package for NextCloud. I'm not even sure why I was surprised.

They forgot Rockbox. I still have an old Sansa Clip with Rockbox on it that plays Doom with no problems.

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago

I played Doom on my 30GB Ipod with Rockbox on it. It was stupid hard to control with the wheel, but it did in fact run.

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 6 points 7 hours ago

Yeah, I have also played it on there. Just to give others an idea, we're talking an MP3 player from 2007, that looks like this:

Here's an article showing the successor model running Doom: https://hackaday.com/2016/12/30/sansa-mp3-player-runs-doom-unplayably/
