I guess Silent Hill. My controversial opinion is that Downpour was the only truly awful Silent Hill game. I like Origins, Homecoming, and Shattered Memories but I don't like that they contradict the previously established lore.

Edit: To clarify I was referring to the main games in the series, none of the weird spinoff or mobile games that no one cares about.

So you liked the gacha game?

What about that horrible slop on the PSVita?

You're asking me how the Silent Hill gacha game is a gacha game? Because there is a Silent Hill gacha game that is definitely a gacha game. I'm not sure how I should explain this any further.

To what game are you referring?

[–] Summzashi@lemmy.world 0 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Not sure if it has a specific title. I'm sure you can use Google.

You brought it up. The fuck?

You implied you played all of them, so I assumed you knew about it and weren't talking out of your ass. Sorry!

Blakes 7, but its hard to think of a genuine controversial take that isn't just disagreeing with crusty old misogynists.

Ironically, I think I'm going to come to the partial defence of a writer that many perceive as a misogynist.

I think Ben Steed is more of a chauvinist, but I dont see him as a misogynist. There is a recurring theme of burly men mishandling women, but aside from the first occasion it is pretty clearly depicted as an objectionable and awful thing. (One of the men in question is literally called Grose for crying out loud).

Steed had an utterly fascinating insight into the overreliance and fixation on technology, and more specifically computers that do the thinking for people, that feels so shockingly relevant in today's society.

I think it's just a real shame that he also had an obsession with battle of the sexes as a theme, and that tends to get in the way of deconstructing person vs machine. Its at its worst in his third and final story, which includes a pretty grim metaphor for female circumcision that seems to get ignored by the 'hero' once it provides a 'solution' to a problem for him.

Tl;dr, Ben Steed more chauvinist than misogynist, lets it get in the way of genuinely fascinating commentaries on AI ahead of his time.

Webcomics I guess?

It's the one niche interest I have the most often online discussion about

I really love Ghostbusters, as in the first film, not as in anything that’s in the universe.

I thought Afterlife was awful.

High level racquetball is incredibly boring to watch. They need to tweak the game so that each rally goes for more than two hits.

Ive always been kind of a hanger on compared to people real deep into stuff. Like just nerdy enough and into it to feel like I belong when at a con. My top fandom is ttrpg's followed by comics followed by anime. Thing about sci fi is it goes over many things and I can't point to one over the other. I mean I do have a thing with star trek but that is just a things my wife and I talk about how if you lived in a fantasy world its the best one to be in for the common being. Definately at a con I feel most at home in the game room.

IMHO, Disintregration is not the best Cure album, as much as I love it.

Bionicle!

My most controversial take is that the story makes no sense and clearly was not really planned out. The ending basically sucks. A reboot could do wonders (unfortunately, not the reboot that we got though). (Probably not that controversial really).

Non-controversialy, the premise of tiny robots fighting a cancer to save a giant body is amazing, the ideas and concepts unique and delightfully alien in a similar way to Morrowind in how the world is so bizarre yet grounded enough that it can really pull you in!
