I'm certain that this will have no negative consequences on the quality and reception of the releases.

Yeah, rushed games are always the best. Love them.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 20 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Sure, normal take. But ES6 would not be 'rushed' even if they finished it a decade ago.

[–] Jesus_666@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

It can absolutely be both rushed and way late. You just have to move very slowly (or inefficiently) for a long time and then try to get what you have release-ready in a hurry.

[–] tiny_hedgehog@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

You make a good point.

This doesn't affect me, cause I never buy games before the first >50% off Steam sale.

[–] justsomeguy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Ye but there have been plenty of games that never got fixed because once a game flops the publisher usually isn't super interested in dumping more cash into it.

I still remember anthem and how they wanted to fix it up for a 2.0 release but when EA realized they wouldn't be able to sell it again because players HAD ALREADY FUCKING PAYED FOR IT they just abandoned it.

All that being said something seems to be going wrong in current game development cycles. It took 4-5 years to make Skyrim and now ES6 will 3 to 4 times as long.

Right Bethesda is defintely gonna release an update and fix all the bugs by then, they are well known for that.

Modders will though.

It worked out great for jedi survivor

I did not play Jedi Survivor....were there issues at launch or cut content?

[–] juipeltje@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah there were, the performance was horrible. Had screen tearing from all the framedrops, and in some areas the internal resolution looked like it was 720p or something. Ironically i bought the ps5 version thinking it would save me from performance issues, cause at the time my gpu was getting older and couldn't buy a new one because of the scarcity, only to be met with that lol. I played the new-game+ mode or whatever over a year later and it was finally fixed for the most part at that point. Still had some screen tearing in really busy areas later in the game.

Oh so it was shoved out the door and unoptimized..what a shame

[–] juipeltje@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah... i'm pretty sure the EA CEO was also bragging to the media at the time about finishing the game in record time. Except it wasn't really finished if you ask me lol.

[–] KokusnussRitter@discuss.tchncs.de 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh cool. More devs being worked to death. Yippie!

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Worked to death and then fired to increase the stock.

[–] vinnymac@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

They’ll create more mandates that you have to use AI to meet quotas or else, and then fire you anyways

Let's demand a studio known for rushed buggy releases even when on schedule, rush to release early. Nothing can go wrong.

[–] warmaster@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

The next Xbox will be the last Xbox.

[–] MoreZombies@quokk.au 1 points 2 weeks ago

this could put the pressure on that results in more third party or spin-off games, rather than rushed main titles.

Give me Brian Fargo having a modern go at it.

[–] SitD@lemy.lol 1 points 1 week ago

oh my God another sequel to the biggest franchises with plenty of sequels? what a fierce and independent leader

[–] orochi02@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isnt the last ES over 12 years or so? Even though im all for a Game taking its time, Isnt a Little push okay? I even heard that es6 wasnt even a priority internally..

[–] OrgunDonor@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I mean, I can understand why it wasn't much of a priority. Was seemingly announced as a way to increase the value of Bethesda before MS bought them. And was known to be just a title, nothing hard started on it, as they were working on Star field.

Bumping it's priority now and then maybe not remaking it dozens of times seems like a good idea in general.
