Are you back Violet?

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 24 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

my daughter casually called the 90s the "late 1900s".

We're cooked

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

My daughter loudly reminds me that I was born in the LAST CENTURY...

[–] MTB@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Wait til she figures out it was also the last millennium.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

The millennium with the falcon.

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

I was born in the late 90s and do this occasionally. It sounds cool and makes the right people squirm.

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 1 points 39 minutes ago

By the end of the last century...

The bad thing is that this is becoming less funny to say, because it's becoming actually a long time ago.

[–] zz31da@piefed.social 2 points 1 hour ago

Way back before the turn of the century

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world -2 points 3 hours ago

I honestly prefer that instead of "the last generation that could have done something to stop the extinction of mankind and did nothing", which wouldnt be exactly true... but...

1982 here, became a furry last year, i now pole dance in VR, lost 70lbs, fitter than ever ^^

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 7 points 4 hours ago

Beauty has been restored into the world ✨✨✨

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Do you make money? Thats wild. I love the 21st century

[–] morgunkorn@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

i work full time in IT yeah, pole dancing in VR costs me money, zero revenue from this hobby

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Dang, you should drop a buymeacoffee link or something on your next session. Full body tracking is not cheap xD

[–] morgunkorn@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

aha i'll consider it when I'm better at it, but i just started my tiktok doing that, so maybe there's potential! ^^

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

I am neither a furry, nor into VR pole dancing, but you should drop us a link for shits and giggles. I'd rather support people doing their weird hobbies for fun instead of meaningless wage slave jobs for misery.

Don't feel compelled to, if you don't want to associate your Lemmy profile with your VR furry pole dancing profile, but if you are having fun with it, you should consider sharing it regardless of how good you are, if only to show other people that this thing exists, and they may have fun with it too

[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Tbh, ive always loved the idea of pole dancing or burlesque but am a v anxious bean. VRC might be the buffer i need. Now i just need a pole and full body tracking lmao

[–] morgunkorn@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 hours ago

it's quite mesmerizing to see people fling around like gravity doesn't exist! I would never have thought this was something for me, but there is someone with a big big heart giving away his time and skill for free lessons twice a week.

i've been stoked from the moment i saw him and his students move like that, 7 days later there was a pole in my playspace, and i've been doing it for three months months now.

The opportunities to learn things in VRChat are incredible, so many avenues to get better at something: languages, singing, yoga, dancing, chess, photography... and then all the skills needed to make your avatar come to life the way you want with Blender, Substance 3D Painter, Unity Editor, VRCFury...

Fun fact: More time has passed between today and 1999, than between 1999 and the Second Cod War.

[–] zarathustrad@lemmy.world 1 points 17 minutes ago

Ah, 1999, the early days of the Bass wars.

Many Bass was slapped.

[–] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 8 points 4 hours ago

The second COD was released in 2005 so that males sense.

[–] TehWorld@lemmy.world 7 points 4 hours ago

I can still remember the stories about when the halibut took back the mid Atlantic ridge.

[–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 hours ago

84 and I would tell you to go eat some flaming genitalia but my back is sprained or something (for real)

[–] BurnedDonutHole@ani.social 11 points 6 hours ago

I find these memes funny. Because one day you'll wake up and find yourself where we old people are. Time really flies by quickly. So, enjoy your youthful times and make as much memories as you can.

1970s ain't got shit to do with the 1990s you mf toddler

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Don't you have grandchildren to play with?

[–] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Nah I got fixed because it was actually legal and not completely abnormal to have done when I came of childbearing age.

[–] Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 15 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Alright, calm down fossil. There's less time between you and us, than there is between us and today - ergo we're all getting older here.

[–] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

you didn't even have domestic internet you protozoa

[–] Th4tGuyII@fedia.io 1 points 1 hour ago

Did you mean "we didn't"?

I'd say you got me on that one, but my hone's internet connection was so shite I basically didn't have it until the 2000s.

Besides you guys had ARPAnet, I'm sure you could make do with that haha

(Now we just need a Centennial to come in here and say we're both young for having had computers full stop)

[–] Contextual_Idiot@sh.itjust.works 26 points 10 hours ago

Have my angry upvote. After I've shaken the dust out of my joints.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 20 points 9 hours ago (6 children)

My 1970's born self appreciates all you horned up youngsters. Things have been...interesting since my early forties when a touch of grey came in.

[–] Bruncvik@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I hear you. A few wrinkles around my eyes and daily cardio, and I haven't gotten so much young mom attention since I was taking my kids to the playground. 10 more years, and I may do the same with potential grandkids. That will be a deadly combo.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

Personally, I expect the twentysomething attention to fall off a cliff as we hit or get very close to 60. I expect the age group that'll give us the time of day then to be fortysomething year olds.

[–] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

Can't imagine such a low stress life that greys didn't come in till 40s, I'm over here with greys in my late 20s....

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I've had them since my early 20s.

The years have been cruel

[–] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

I hope it's a few select hairs and not patches :') that's how it was for me starting at around 22.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

It was patches. Its zones now that 20 more years have gone by

[–] sharkweek@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

I think it's genetic sometimes - I didn't have a single grey hair until I was 35, which is when a bunch of health stuff kicked off.

Still don't have much grey at 48, and my grandfather was only about 50/50 when he died at 85.

I have not had a stress-free life.

[–] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

True that genetics do take a part of it, but sadly both of my parents didn't develop greys until their mid-50s....

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

It is, in turn 40 this year and in the past year they’ve only just started to fill in. My dad had almost completely black hair into his early 60s. Both he and I have had super stressful lives. My mom had very obvious grays by the time I was born when she was 27. He’s half Native American and she’s 100% Dutch so wildly different genetics

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

I think it’s genetic

Yeah, I knew a guy back in high school who at 18 started going bald, and not a nice bald, poor bugger. There was another man I met who was in his 50s and had white hair since he was 11 or so, thick full pure white hair. Myself, @50ish, maybe 10 whiteish hairs on my head, and about half my beard.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

It's an epidemic 'round here as well.
