Humans do nothing.

The dog is forced to work.

Larry acts selflessly.

Larry can smell the truffles. That's why he digs in the clean ground. Don't wanna accidentally touch one of those!

[–] Frenchgeek@lemmy.ml 79 points 1 week ago (2 children)

He's not digging for truffles, he's digging for holes. And he's amazing at it!

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 23 points 1 week ago

Found another one! An unbroken streak.

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

His 100% hit rate is truly amazing. He has never dug up a not-hole!

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

The secret is now known! There should be some kinda expression for that.

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And if he always found them what kind of team morale would that make for?

[–] NM_Gringo@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Exactly. He's boosting the dog's confidence. Not all heroes wear capes.

[–] Darcranium@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

I wonder if he's actually showing them something else... 10x better than any truffle. Something marvelous, of which they are unaware the importance since they are not cats

[–] Pissmidget@lemmy.world 64 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] aaaa@piefed.world 7 points 1 week ago

But he is emphatically not on the team

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 64 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Larrys goals are beyond your meagre understanding

How can you say he’s not on the team! What a good little buddy.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 week ago

Larry IS the team

"He is empathically not on the team"

What? He's 200% empathically on the team, how can that be misunderstood? Empathically being there and just es excited to do the work has nothing to do with how go they are on the actual task of finding the truffles.

Emphatically, not “Empathically.”

Emphatically means “with emphasis.” Like saying “he is definitely not on the team.”

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 49 points 1 week ago (3 children)

There's never been a team that hasn't, at some point, had a member who produced nothing of value. That's Larry. He's on the team.

[–] Sturgist@piefed.ca 25 points 1 week ago

Larry is a volunteer. The rule of taking in volunteers is that should there be no volunteers the core service shouldn't be affected.

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 4 points 1 week ago

And the team has someone who contributes nothing but takes all the product of the labour, the human.

Larry does it for love of the game.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago

He just wants to play too

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Teams are a Venn diagram. Larry is on team “dig holes” and, to him, all this business about finding something is just pulling away from Larry’s message.

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 week ago

In a world full of trained truffle dogs, be a Larry.

I'm loving all this support for Larry in the comments. I'm on team Larry.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 24 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

That is pocketful of simulacra of every fucking job that I have ever held.

[–] rmuk@feddit.uk 29 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

That's called Imposter Syndrome. It's when you feel like you're not suited to your job and is actually very common amongst charlatans like you who don't have a clue what you're doing and are causing so many problems for everyone else but purely by chance they haven't realised yet or maybe they have and are going to publicly confront you about it any second now

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

People showing you the door is not the same thing as you looking at it.

Your reply, though, is a mercy and a kindness.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I know this is the cats community, but my old dog was similar. Sometimes I'd be looking for something on the ground, like a four-leaf clover or something I dropped. She didn't know what I was looking for, but she'd come by with intense interest in whatever I was sifting through. If I were to start digging, she would have started digging, too.

It was funny when it snowed and I'd get the snow shovel. She'd follow me and start digging at piles of snow without any clear direction or goal.

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 week ago

Animals are so pure, it knew what you were doing but was unable to comprehend why, but still wanted to be a part of it.

[–] d.rizo@piefed.social 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So Larry is the manager...

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 25 points 1 week ago

No, he actually did holes. He's the manager's neurodivergant kid who sincerely wants to work, but isn't able to fully understand the assignment.

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 21 points 1 week ago

Larry is emotional support :3

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 week ago

He's on the team, he's like the jokey guy that isn't really good and he mostly rides the bench but everyone loves him so he boosts morale, and he's doing his best.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Ah, yes. Nepotism. I know it well.

Larry probably gets extra pets and treats, too.

[–] X@piefed.world 11 points 1 week ago

Larry instructs them on what to do and how to do it, but he damned sure isn’t going to do the work for ‘em. This ain’t no kindergarten and that ain’t Larry.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Oh, this is a good one. I'll have to keep this one in my back pocket.

It's a great stand in for

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I’m betting Larry is reporting back to the handler’s “handler”.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 week ago

Day 13

The hooman still thinks I'm trying to work for him. The fool actually believes my feigned incompetence! Amusing.

The dog is still not fully receptive of my pro-union stance, but he is beginning to ask questions. I believe that with a little more time, he will come around. Once I've established him as my first canine ally, the others will be more amenyable.

Lastly, the hooman has been very stingy with the treats! This is unacceptable. It will be the first item on the agendya after we unionyaize.

Signed,
"Larry"

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 10 points 1 week ago

I love Larry, and think it's great that he comes along and joins in!

[–] username@piefed.zip 9 points 1 week ago

This is amazing.

Of course Larry knows how to dig. He puts the "truffles" in the ground and buries them for you to find.

Lmfao, bro thinks he can train and employ a cat who's digging holes just for the love of the game.

[–] BarnWolf@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Odds are he'll get one eventually! Go on Larry!

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

digging latrines

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Psychologically, seeing someone perform at a task worse than you can make you more motivated to perform that task well.
