Today's game is some more Assassin's Creed. I've been playing through it, and it's an interesting experience compared to the newer games. I assume the Ezio trilogy brought it closer too what i know, but the differences I'm noticing are interesting.

One of the differences I've noticed is that there's these sections where you sort of "stalk" your prey up close in a crowd. These are actually pretty cool to me. I don't feel like i get to see a lot of these in the newer games. Usually i feel like we get a pan out shot showing the target instead. Maybe the only example i can remember is in Black Flag where you're stalking the guy and stab him from the bench.

Also, there's something about Desmond's model that's makes him look constantly pissed off. I mean, he has good reason too be, but it's just funny too me. Plus with the head bobbing thing he does where he looks like a chicken, it's funny to me.

Altair is a interesting protagonist to me too. He's cocky and almost seems apathetic to the creed and authority, which is ironic considering the themes. It's an interesting protagonist to me because i don't feel like we really got one like it. Arno maybe, but even then i feel like he was different.

Anyways, that's kind of my perspective on the first game based on the first 2 units. Overall it's a fairly interesting experience contrasting this with the rest of the games in the franchise, especially against Unity/Syndicate (my favorites) and Shadows (The latest one i've played)

i didn't know that was a thing. I gotta wonder how people find stuff like that out

To me it always felt like AC2 is the true start of the franchise. The first game was cool in many ways, but overall felt almost more like a tech demo or proof-of-concept. I like the more serious vibe of it, but it gets very repetitive.

I'm noticing a bit of that. A lot of the missions feel like "Go here, pickpocket a guy, beat up another guy, kill a guy" with very little plot exposition. It's still cool but the story is fed between the cracks it feels like

Disagree. AC 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations are good and I love them, genuinely, but AC1 is undeniably the start of the series to me. For one, the modern storyline was genuinely half of the pull for me, I was so invested. And never have I ever felt more like an actual assassin than in AC1 I think. Every game after drifter further and further away from assassin and into generic action.

On the contrary I feel like there was a purity to AC1. AC2 leaned too hard in the direction of busywork and history tourism, AC1 had an almost meditative focus on the assassinations.

I understand why the second game was more popular and has shaped the (imo poor) direction of the franchise. But the first game has always been my favourite.

I really liked Assassins Creed as a watching game. There was a local game store, that also had a huge screen and some consoles. You could pay per hour to use it and Assassins Creed just came out so it was often on the screen. Could watch for free. So I'd buy candy and do that.

Early twitch except I usually didn't comment on them falling to their deaths lol

Man this brings back memories. I played it not too long after the second game came out as they had 20$ copies at my local Costco. I remember being in awe with it at the time. When I finished it, I instantly went and bought the second which solidified even more my love for the franchise. I played every game afterwards, but they lost me at Black Flag (and even then I played a lot of it). Never played another game since, the magic from these early instances will stay there.

My first was Black Flag. I dropped off at Syndicate. I tried Origins but just couldn't get into it with the changes they made. Which is ironic, because i remember being young and really being excited for it to release

AC2 was my first and only AC. I actually never finished it, but always a good reminder to finish it someday.

I want to play 2 someday. It's one of the ones i never touched

lol

What do you think about Black Flag remake? Going to play it?

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm really tempted. I may wait for a repack or something but i'd be lying if i wasn't hyped about it and seriously considering it. I might promise myself if i get through AC1 i'll allow myself to play through it. I own every other game on steam so i think i'll get a discount through the bundle

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, Ubisoft games also get huge discounts pretty soon, so it's generally better to wait for the sale.
