China will give Trump something to look the other way when they re-take Taiwan, and he'll do it. There will be a huge outcry from both sides, but he will order Hegseth to stand down, and since he's Commander-In-Chief, Hegseth will do it.
There might be an impeachment, but no conviction, and the American people don't know or care enough about Taiwan to want to go to war against China, and eventually it will blow over, and leave another black mark on Trump's legacy, which he won't care about because he got a plane, or a boat, or a pile of money, or permission to build a Trump Tower in Taiwan, or something.
Right, it's better to be polite to the people who are trying to enslave and oppress you. They will most definitely reward your obsequence. Good luck with that strategy.
Sociopathic Oligarchs are advocating for this type of treatment, or worse, for virtually everybody who isn't them, so I'm not really concerned when one of them gets a taste of their own medicine. I just hope all the rest of them are seeing this, and worrying that someday that WILL be them.

Not everybody wants to reconnect with any random person from their past. He did a nice thing for someone years ago, that doesn't mean he wants a relationship with that person for the rest of their life.
War is a great driver of jobs for the less fortunate. It's nice of the government to give them that opportunity, and pay them as well!

War is great for the Industrial Complex on both sides, so we should always hope for a good war to help the economy. War is Patriotic.

Fantasy? Not really, I've read a few books by bank robbers and jewel thieves, and I have decent Critical Thinking Skills, so I'm speculating based on a little knowledge of that world. It's not Nakatomi Plaza, they aren't looking for bearer bonds, they want a quick score, a quick turnover, and a quick trip out of town, preferably within 24 hours. They don't want to be putting out feelers for fencing well documented paper that will immediately lead straight back to them.
It's pretty easy to tell if an envelope is holding papers or lumpy stuff like jewelry, just by looking at it. Also, it's a paper envelope, so a quickly poked hole will verify if it's worth the trouble.
If I'm a thief, and my assignment is going through safe deposit boxes, I'm not wasting my time on paper.
Nah, these are bank robbers, it isn't a movie. They want a quick turnover for their haul. If they open it, and it's full of paper, they just drop it, and go to the next one, hoping its jewelry or cash. No sense filling your bag with heavy paper that may or may not be valuable, and is difficult to fence in any case. You'd hate to get near the end, and have no more room for gold and jewels, because youve got a lot of divorce papers.
We've already seen this scenario over and over, in Syria, in Qatar, etc. He is up for sale, and EVERYBODY knows it.
In Trump's world, there's a price tag on EVERYTHING, and China can afford it. They know that this would be their easiest chance to get it, and I doubt they'll let that opportunity pass.
If the only issue is chips, they'll promise him access to the chips, as well as the bribe. He'll take that without hesitation, they'll renege on their promise, but it will be too late to do anything about it.
