Did those emulators actually use Nintendo’s assets? The courts have been very clear repeatedly that making emulators is perfectly legal if you make them from scratch. Nintendo loves acting like that’s not true and love to use their team of lawyers to make illegal threats, but GitHub is owned by Microsoft, surely they could just tell Nintendo to kick rocks?

If it’s just like, $5 cheaper than the legal stuff I’ll absolutely buy some black market Chinese RAM
Read The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber
Long before the arrival of the Spanish, the people of Teotihuacan rose up against the ruling class in part to end sacrifices. The temple has clear signs of being ransacked, with statues destroyed by axes, and no remains of sacrifice victims found from after this time.
After this, they seem to have set up a proto-communist society, particularly focusing on building large, luxurious apartments for all resident families. “Neighborhoods” of these apartments would elect representatives to the city council.
They also built what’s functionally a spite building to hide the temple. The temple originally would’ve been at the end of the main central boulevard, but a new building was put up in front of it to block the sight line because who wants to look at that ugly church where they used to kill people.
The big benefit for local models is you can use them to crush through a lot of google searches in one go and find you a good source, its great for people doing scientific research because you can search all the journals you have access to very quickly for relevant info.
This is the only thing I’ve tried to really get an AI model working for, I want it to do some large scale searching and format the info with links to the sources for me to look through. None of the text it writes will end up in my final product but it should be able to do the searching a lot more efficiently than I can myself.
Unfortunately I’ve completely failed to get this to work
“There are things cat shit does better than dog shit”
Yeah hence “supposed to be”
I’m only semi-tech-literate, what is this manifest 3 thing and why does it kill Ublock? And if chromium is open, shouldn’t forks be able to modify whatever manifest 3 is to restore the abilities Ublock needs?
Isn’t chromium also (supposed to be) FOSS? Or am I misremembering
“Phase it out” implies they created it in the first place.
What they meant was “Forcibly stop our customers from using a plugin from a 3rd party developer”
Literally none of Microsoft or Google’s god damn business and a reasonable country would heavily fine them for breaking consumer protection laws.
The part that would piss me off the most about blocking Ublock isn’t even the ads, I use Ublock to hide annoying non-ad elements on things, like blocking the AI on Google searches.
That’s true, they could help with that. Not enough to light the street, but enough to show you where the street isn’t.
There’s an American company doing similar, a couple years ago I had some sort of flowering plant that glowed, I think it was a petunia, it was awesome but I’m not great at keeping plants alive.
Replacing street lamps is a hilarious fantasy though. They glow enough to look fucking awesome but not enough to see.
Also if our legal system is going to work anything like the way it currently does, we have to introduce severe penalties for this kind of legal bullying.
If a wealthier entity is the one that introduces a legal challenge, the state should pay for the defense, and the wealthier entity should risk losing an amount of money that would be pretty insignificant to them but life changing for the entity they’re targeting.
If giant company Nintendo does a spurious lawsuit against Some Guy, that guy should have his legal costs covered by the state and if he wins Nintendo should have to give him a few million dollars. There should be a strong incentive to not comply, with low risks if you lose and a high reward if you win. Importantly this can only go one way, with large wealthy entities having to pay that penalty but random individuals not being at risk of that.
The other option is my preferred one: Private lawyers should not exist. All lawyers should be employed by the state, and hired out to companies or individuals as needed, at no cost to them. That should be the only way to practice law, is as an employee of the state, receiving the universal Lawyer Salary that is exactly the same for all lawyers. Companies don’t get to have a team of lawyers they’re already paying for that will do whatever they want, they can go have a meeting with the local Law Office and the local Law Officials will decide if there’s anything worth following up on, and if so lawyers will also be assigned to assist the target.
