“There have been many plagues in the world as there have been wars, yet plagues and wars always find people equally unprepared.”

If Camu were around, he'd add global warming.

Most are boomers who know they'll die in the next decade. They don't give a shit.

I don't know if I would exactly discount the whole thing. It's certainly gotten better understood but I don't know if it's gotten any easier. The birth of our first child, which had some serious complications was an eye opener for sure, and I'm definitely witness to how badly the whole thing can wreck a woman's body. Your anecdote about the church wife isn't really appropriate here. There are certainly women who are just damn good, for whatever reason, at giving birth to children. Kind of a hidden talent, and more the exception than the rule.

I'm just not sure if it all equals an entire adulthood of back breaking labor, or how much that even applies to today's men. Things have changed, obviously.

So wait, do all poor men subjugate their wives and beat them? I just want to understand what argument you're making.

Define "fury". I feel like I'm being relatively conversational, we just disagree on something. I'm not calling you slurs, or making assumptions of your character. I'm simply responding to people who are responding to me at this point, with a few minor exceptions.

If I were to make any kind of judgement it would be that a lot of you don't really know how this is supposed to work. For too many, and maybe you included, discourse in social media means you have to completely agree with something, or else remain silent. You've been swatting at trolls so long you don't know the difference. This has the unfortunate side effect of creating echo chambers, and these little praise parties.

Edit: actually, overlooking my comment to you, maybe I was 😬 oops. I'm probably getting a little swept up in this too -- anyway, you still stopped, the same as I did. Should I be obligated to say something nice about the content, or nothing at all? So the conclusion is still the same.

So what made you stop? You're joining the circle jerk of praise, or you're furious that some of us aren't on board, and you're going to tell us all to go outside?

[–] Dr_pepper_spray@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Which I don't get. If they want something to constantly agree with them, and absolutely love the things they love then just chat at ChatGPT. It'll shine that bottom better than any human will.

We're particular and become disagreeable after a time.

Yeah, why not? Seems to be working out fine enough.

I get it. You want me to shut up. But why? I'm not telling you to shut up and go outside. You're replying to me, I'm replying back. I'm on a phone and fast typer. What's your situation?
