Maybe “The Space Merchants”? They sell land on Venus because life really sucks on Earth. But will it be better elsewhere?

I've never had a pc get to 10 years old before upgrading. I fully expect my MacBook to meet my needs (which don't include rending animations or editing video) for the rest of my life (I’m 65) OR at least 10 years.

It’s hard for people who haven’t experienced the loss of experts to understand. Not a programmer but I worked in aerospace engineering for 35 years. The drive to transfer value to execs and other stakeholders by reducing the cost of those who literally make that value always ends costing more.
