A demonstration in the Hungarian capital Budapest Saturday drew tens of thousands of protesters demanding that Prime Minister Viktor Orban resign due to perceived inaction over allegations of child abuse in state-run institutions.

Farmers in southwest France blocked major roads overnight from Friday to Saturday, setting fire to hay bales and clashing with police in protest at government‑ordered cattle culls linked to an outbreak of lumpy skin disease.

Offering screening for neurodivergence to people detained by the police could help ensure access to appropriate support and fairer treatment in the criminal justice system, say Cambridge researchers. A study from the team suggests that one in two individuals arrested and detained in London may have undiagnosed attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and one in 20 may have undiagnosed autism.

Particularly one specific sentence stands out in the annual threat assessment, where the Danish Defence Intelligence Service (FE) lists external threats and security policy challenges for Denmark.

And notably, it is not about Russia or China. For the first time, the intelligence service in the report titled ’Udsyn 2025’ also focuses on the United States under Donald Trump’s leadership.

»The US is now using its economic and technological strength as a means of power, even against allies and partners«, the main conclusion states.

  • Foreign technology companies cannot be entrusted with meeting Europe’s growing digital needs. This includes American big tech firms.
  • Trump rarely hesitates to weaponise technological dependencies or attack the EU’s digital rules. A change of president in the future is unlikely to alter these dynamics.
  • The EU should build an independent “stack” of technologies to shield itself from other powers weaponising tech against it. Building this “EuroStack” must begin where such risks are greatest, namely in the domains of space, chips, cloud computing and AI.
  • The EU does not need to construct an entirely independent new tech ecosystem to strengthen its defences. Instead, it needs to build “just enough” capabilities in these key areas to extricate itself from its dependencies.
  • American backlash against this effort is likely. But Europeans can make strategic concessions where necessary while keeping their eyes fixed on the sovereignty prize.

At least six people have been killed and dozens of others injured in fresh clashes between the two South-East Asian neighbors, despite a ceasefire agreement signed in October under US mediation.
